We need to change ourselves first.

some of the comments in this board are too hypocritical. We MISTREAT our fellow Indians and yet we expect ROYAL treatment from Aussies and Western Countries.

Think about it from a different perspective. People from all over India come to Bombay. The locals, Marathis, accommodate everyone. To my experience most Marathis are peaceful, god-fearing, hard-working people. I have often seen 'outsiders' commenting on locals, how they do menial jobs and about their culture in a downright degrading way. They bear it to a certain degree but when the taunts, insults, intimidation becomes too much, the locals retaliate. When the locals fight it out, there is a big hue and cry. Wonder why?? The least the outsiders could do is to stay NEUTRAL and be gracious.

From what I read from the Indan-Aussies, almost all say that we lack 'civic sense' which isn't a surprising thing. Also, we all have this regionalistic mindset. We have made a mess here and taking it to other countries as well.

PS: 1) I am not a Marathi but a Kannadiga living in Bombay. 2)I DO NOT APPROVE any form of violence as a means to justification.

Agreed,we need to change ourselves- whether first or second. All countries and cultures have problems- do we start beating them up when they visit India and then say change yourselves or else....
May be its just me, but your post does justify what happended in Australia on grounds of lack of civic sense. That is a really harsh punishment for lack of "Australian" civic sense,I must say.

Alok, My point is pretty simple. LETS ADAPT to where we live, be in India or anywhere else and NOT ALIENATE ourselves. There is absolutely nothing to lose if we do adapt.

I am not sure about the reason for the attacks. Could it be person-person rivalry Or some arguments which lead to this or for money? However, I am not denying the racism issue either.

@ neo A

you are saying we want royal treatment.

if expecting that innocents are not attacked is expecting royal treatment, then what is ordinary treatment in your parlance..

in spite of so many attacks, there are a lot of people just ready to blame indian students.

real slave mentality.

Real Slave Mentality...yes it is..use your royal mentality and don't go there. It will help the genuine students who want the best education. Also, remember 'ek machli talab ko ganda karti hai'...which is the case there...half the indians...especially taxi drivers indulge in illegal activities..so all Indians are getting a bad name. Same is the case in NZ...just the NZ ppl are a little less aggresive.

Neo,I do agree with your point.I am actually a believer since I do travel outside India a lot although I have never been to Australia.
I don't think so many attacks in so few days can be co-incidence, it is definitely racially motivated. Please type "racial attacks on Indians" in google and check what the Australian media is saying.
Adaptation is required from both sides, not only from us.

change your mentality first.Mumbai has not been built by your baap. Its India and everyone is free to live anywhere. And yes I would not support someone to taunt you even in Kolkata as you are an Indian and your have equal right there also.Grow up.

I completely agree with u.For past two days I have been advocating a violent counter-attack against these racists, not the lame Gandhigiri. These racists r real cowards, when u hit them back they will flee like some stray dogs.I would like 2 say to ur Indian students that when they attack u try to punch at least 1 of them hard on their face, believe me when they will face the mirror & see the scar they will always remember that an Indian bashed him up

India is really changing now. Now we have laws for almost anything and everything. Any successful person in his own way can be seen in the courts these days as some one is not happy with his/her success. It can be a simple corruption case, a criminal charge that is non bailable, non compoundable or even a DP or a 498A in case of a man. The legal process is so quick that the whole generation of intellects will change by the time you come out fighting the cases. As soon as the lawyers on either side of the case come to know that u are an expatriate they will come with open arms and ideas to help you for some 15 more years of court battle. So pleas come back to india. If nothing else you will make your fellow indians richer as they have made good plans to serve you intelligent people.

Do you think the Indian police and the corruption here has come from the sky or smuggled from another world. It is us, and we have to fix it.
Are you telling us that Australia is a trouble-free country? If so, may be all the news reports are false! Why there have been so few arrests till date on this issue?Who gave these people the right to behave in this manner? Why the Australian and the international media quite about it?I don't have the figures for the scams, but surely a lot of scum is produced there.
Have you forgotten the Indian doctor of a minority community who was arrested on charges of terrorism, released, visa cancelled and sent back to India?Do you know that no one has apologised for it till now even though the charges have been dropped after an Australian court dismissed all the accusations? Before that happened,I always thought that it happens only in India...

Australia is the most abusive land in the world.Be it their cricketers, or any others, they have highest racist tags in their image.Even the aussie cricketers r facing attacks, recent one was Symonds in a pub, where he attacked a person,Derek Crookes the ex aussie commentator got killed in a pub.And if an Aussie sees an indian,he runs after him like a wild animal. The suggestions given by some of the indians doesn't convince me totally.

Some of them say that don't talk in ur native language and not to talk loudly, wat non-sense is this.Does it irritate Aussies, then it's sad to see that the so called developed country is extremely idiosyncrotic with their mind.

Don't any foreigner talk in their NATIVE language in india??they do!!!

The fact is these foriegn countries will never improve. The y like s@x,money,girls,racism and aggression.

India is the best country to live in,although there were some attacks on North indian too,but no such things happened to phoren babas.

India should aggressively put pressure on Aussie govt for stopping these. If Aus failed to do that, don't allow any aussies in india to india for next five yrs. It's the matter of tough action, who takes first have chances of winning more. Can india do that, our PM can't!!He can spend sleepless night for Dr.Hameed who got arrested in Aus for terror suspect, but he seems to have little sympathy towards more large no.of innocent indian students in australia
