How do we treat the following? 1. Students from African Countries studying in Pune, Bangalore, Delhi? At best we ignore them, at worst we LAUGH at them and call them names - and even loot them (as in rent for example).
2. Students from North East - At best we have stereo-typed them to be yuppies and loose. At worst we do fist-fights with them(yes its common thing esp. in delhi).
3. People who look different OR do not belong to our linguistic group. We have a tendency to MAKE FUN of them, and ill-treat them.
4. Foreign Visitors - we dont just loot them, we even do dastardly things to them - see GOA.
The genesis to the whole trouble is the protectionism we indulge in trying to ensure jobs to locals and trying to divide society in the name of language ,race, culture, nation etc.In Maharashtra it is Maharashtras Vs.North Indians,in TN it is brahmins,North Indians Vs Tamils.Such sort of fragmenting society in the name of language, race, colour etc is thr root cause of all such ills
Basically I have experienced in Australia that australians are very ferocius as far as apartheid is concerned. Basic fact is Australia is a country which has been formed by the sons or brothern of the most hated white culprits who were shipped there in early century. This is in their blood and these incidents are quite common there. For that matter studying in Australia is just normal for our Indian crowd and somehow after moving abroad our Indian crowd tends to convert themselves into local crowd by changing their behavioural pattern which is not welcomed by these white goons of Australia. Best is stay there as an Indian ,get your certificates and if want to continue do the job and earn your money, dont try to become a mainstream Australian as they just cannot digest that. So the lesson for future students is go there study there earn lots of money , marry australian girls and then when you have accumulated good amount of money leave the lady and come back to your corrupt country Apna Bharat mahan. What a hue & cry I wonder why nobody makes a noise when foreign tourists are raped or looted in India. It is the same story so dont cry and behave yourself.

I too agree with the same...Why we didnt see such a discussion when forigners got repaed in India
I was a student in Melbourne during 2003-05. Please bear in mind the following while travelling to Australia, specially Melbourne bound students.
1. Stay away from crime hotspots of Footscray, Sunshine and sorrounding western suburbs. These suburbs are notorius for drug junkies and 90% of the attacks have been happening here. 2. These thugs think that Indians are soft and can easily be robbed. Carry a good knife with you when you go out to work at nights. 3. If possible travel in groups and always board a train compartment with middle aged/aged people in it at nights. Avoid sitting near young boys. 4. Aussie govt/police can't do anything because everything is to do with the attitude of the locals. Many local perceive Indian's a threat to their lifestyle as they increase competition for jobs. 5. Follow local etiquitte like don't push people in the rush, say thank you to driver while alighting from the bus/tram, don't speak loudly over phone in public transport.

Idiot how do you know that i did a mechanic course?. I am a chip designer in Bangalore. I didn't apply for PR. If i wanted to i could have got it. There's more opportunities in India now. My classmates have Australian PR but are working in India.
I WONDER HOW COULD 2 TEENAGERS ATTACK AND INJURE 4 GROWN UP INDIANS? WHY THE INDIANS COULD NOT FIGHT BACK?
IF THE INDIANS HAD FOUGHT BACK AND KILLED ONE OF THE ATTACKERS, WOULD THE AUSTRALIAN POLICE HAVE BEHAVED THE SAME WAY?
LASTLY, WHY DO WE NEED TO GO TO AN UNCIVILISED COUNTRY LIKE AUSTRALIA FOR STUDIES? THEIR UNIVERSITIES AND INSTITUTES ARE NO WAY BETTER THAN THE INDIAN ONES. THE BIGGEST PROOF OF THIS IS AN AVERAGE EDUCATED AUSTRALIAN WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COMPETE WITH AN INDIAN WITH SAME EDUCATION 99 TIMES OUT OF 100.

I totally agree with Sam. I am in Melbourne and used to be a student once. I was attacked by a drunk druggy man on a train station. All I did was hit him back and he fell on the tracks and I got out of the station quickly. I suggest all the indian students not to be very polite and mild mannered. Just give these buggers what they deserve.

If the AP guys do not want to be treated like the boys in the above article, they should not demand for curd-rice and sambar-rasam in every restaurant that they go in any place inthe world...Naturally , the restauranat owner may not behve properly if yu insist that you want to complete a chinese and thai meal with curd-rice...
