END IS NEAR!!
by Nibiru on May 14, 2009 09:36 AM  | Hide replies

The current international tension may probably result in world war. Moreover economic crisis may lead to big problems like business loss and massive job cuts. All government decision will fail, serious law and order problem will break-out in all major countries. People will fight for food and water.

Clearly the increasing rate of earthquakes and dramatic change in climate pattern point something big in near future. Pole-shift --the biggest ever catastrophe that mankind ever seen may happen in 2012. Recently some scientists proved that ice in Arctic ocean will completly melt by 2015.

Only those who spread unconditional love and brotherhood could survive disasters to come.

WAKE UP.... END IS NEAR!!!!

Views are well articulated. I wish we have jobs and companies which are recession proof and provide the best jobs and remuneration. In the real world every individual needs to think and act like a CEO. He has reengineer himself and set continous priorities and goals and make their jobs / work recession proof. The only way it can is stay competitive , ahead of the curve and move continously up in the value chain. It is also equally important that each individual should look at an atlernative income even during work and ensure that this income is sufficient to maintain a good quality life just in case the unexpected happens. Todays world is certainly for the weak hearted. It is not the strongest that survive but it is the one which is more agile and more amenable for change is the one which survives.

Indian Government Fault
by rajiv mehta on May 14, 2009 09:21 AM  | Hide replies

It is the fault of Indian government not IT industry. In US if an employee is laid off government pays them a regular fix monthly income sufficient enough to support himself. This amount is collected from salaried employees as social security tax. Our government collects professional tax from every salaried employees income which is analogous to social security tax but we dont have analogous scheme in our country. In U.S. employees who are laid off get more tax refunds, in some cases their taxes are waived off. But in our contry everybody has to pay tax irrespective of he is employeed or not.
Indian companies have taken inspiration of layoff from US companies. It is not possible to stop layoff. But can Indian government take the inspiration of giving tax cuts and social security from US Government????????

Check the name of company. Some companies do not use the word Pvt Ltd even if they are Pvt ltd companies jsut because using Pvt Ltd on the letter head suggests to clients and employees that the company is very small. So make sure by using their registration name whrether it is Pvt Ltd.COmpanies with less than 100 employees are usually Pvt Ltd.

Will you resign??
by abhishek srivastava on May 14, 2009 09:07 AM  | Hide replies

How many times we have heard that top management person or even manager is fired? very rare. But a junior level person is fired always. These corporates talks about ethicks and value which is laughable. There credentials should be checked by retired chieft justise of India and group of enforcement guys. How much they have misused the visa norms...is that not being unethical? if a junior person does a single mistake that is enough to be fired on one hour or any problem in background verification is excuse to fire...but what about gross corporate unethical behavior. They send people on H1 business visa and ask to work which is wrong...they send on H1B and add others work details in for visa interview to get through...is this not unethical. That way corporates are bringling national shame...its a cheating at international level. Now just see on the name of SEZ they are looting public money and converting their next door building as SEZ and eating all public money. Software companies for so long continue to have tax break, is there is any relaxaxtion for their employee? its a serious question...I do not agree with this manager...he is equally responsible.it was his duty to negotiate with mgmt else should have resigned on protest...will he do that....??

This is a fake letter,If he knows management was wrong then he could have resigned with entire team.A manager who cannot support his team members when they are correct is a hypocrite.

Just another excuse !!!!
by harish shankar on May 14, 2009 08:50 AM  | Hide replies

I found the article quite balanced but lot of questions remains unanswered. 1. As many as 14 years IT industry was making profit at a pace of 100-200%. Where did all the money go? Can't the companies dig into thier reserves for a year or so to hold on to the employees? may be giving them less pay which would be first step in any case companies do to exploit the work force. 2.Why not retrain some of the best performers in some other fields or technology and get a committement from that person to serve the company for some time at fixed rate . Do they do it? Any way human as such likes to follow the least resistance path. so layoff is the truth. In a country like India where there are no strict enforcement of labour laws and no social security system. Pain and misery is destined for workers.

As you all are pointing out about layoff from IT companienes, I would look at it in a diff way. We have earned well in good times when the market is doing bad even the company need to show profit's for its investor. So they need to layoff people to keep profitablity,I agree it hurts but thats the fact we need to learn to live with.

I agree to most of the points what Ram has written. I have seen this practice in IT specially when companies need manpower they recruit like anything. And after sometime they realize the mistakes and at this point of time the employee has to suffer
