Take care while writing covering letters and also CVs
by SURESH S on May 12, 2009 12:52 PM

I prepare final year students for campus interviews and entrance examinations. All the time , I insist on the highest possible standards from my students when it comes to written language. So I ask them to check and double-check their CVs and covering letters. I have read about many HR people insisting on this aspect.
Sadly, many students now have this notion of neglecting the language aspect. They commit simple spelling and grammatical errors. Instead of finding fault with the HR people (as some people have done in this forum), I request prospective job-hunters to check their CVs and covering letters before sending them.
Regards,
S.Suresh,
Trichy

Ha Ha Ha---Errors what a word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Errors--this one word is making the world upside down. Resume whoever had coined these words, blame not him/her.The entire corporate world moves on these two words.Individual should clean his/her bowels every morning, including the CEOs with their resume/CV.In this downturn he/she should be ready with a tissue paper(Resume)at his back.Because you never know when you will be fired. Everybody has a habit to poke his/her finger and find fault or errors in what and the way the others do, this is common across all sections. Never advice unless consulted. We have that inner itch for free suggestions because he/she feels their experiences are better than the others.Though we have a standard for writing a resume, what matters is the way you express yourself .There is no yardstick to arbitrate a resume. The interviewer only understands your past experience and the necessary skill required for the job you had applied for, unless your application is for the post of an English teacher or professor. If this is the case during the interview process or the resume screening, every company should hire an English expert from the Oxford. The best companies in the world are badly hit and some shut the doors, albeit they have the best resumes. In a nut shell,do not find errors unless you are the benchmark, recession took a toll on everybody.Individuals are not interested in our English writing skills; they are worried about the basic needs.Let’s make a better place.Tolerence is important, not errors.

What nonesense???You should quit writing or reading English if you cann't follow the rules of grammer. It is very painful that people like you apreciate those who commit mistakes. We must learn about the grammer before using any language. It is also an insult of your skills & knowledge if you use a language in a wrong manner.SHAME ON YOU.

I am sure you are not good even with your own mother tongue. Errors are errors whatever the language, respect the language and use it appropriately . Try making errors in your mother tongue and just see how many brickbats you will receive from your own people. If your learning , learn well, otherwise just forget everything including a job. English is the most sought language when it comes to employment particularly in INDIA, as people are not good in their own mother tongues or regional languages except a few pandits.Don't get frustrated learning a language .

To encapsulate the entire issue----Do not find errors in anything unless he/ she is the standard (benchmark) for speaking or writing. The recession has taken a toll on everybody. Individuals are not interested in

Modern Day Education
by M on May 12, 2009 09:45 AM

Modern Day Education is all about hurriedly acquired paper-certificate collection race.

So dont expect something extraordinary or even ordinary out of that.Majority will be below average even with all kinds of paper-certificates.

Technical people must not go for MBA kind of business certificate race because it dilutes and contradicts the process of human development.
Science and Technology teaches to sacrifice for humanity and for a larger goal, wheare as Business is for take-all and and make-all philosophy mostly to make a lusty creed.

errors in CV
by neeraj tanwar on May 12, 2009 09:16 AM  | Hide replies

"Why would anyone want to employ a lawyer or a secretary who makes spelling mistakes or errors? If they can't pay attention to their own CV, why would you trust them to work on any of your documents?"....What a farce - they can elect idiots like George Bush and Gordon Brown to the highest offices and trust them with the running of the nation and have the temerity to say that they cannot overlook the spelling or grammatical mistakes. It just shows how vane their mentality is.

You seem to be the one who would never correct yourself but find fault with others. Buck up kid. Life will be better if you looked at yourself.
