Blame it on the technology
by Madhusudhan on May 11, 2009 12:35 PM  | Hide replies

Spelling and grammer mistakes are happening because people have completely stopped writing. we eithrer sms, or cling on to our laptop, desktop keyboard and key in lengthy stories without looking at the content. While you are writing you will be more conscious and aware of things... so stop keying take a pen and start writing more..

Do the mistakes 'occur' or do they 'happen'? How do you spell 'either'? While keying this on comptr, you would have found it highlighted. So, don't blame new technology.

Madhusudhan....

Check your own spellings. 'Grammar' is spelt with an 'a', not with an 'e'.

Useless people wasting their time in finding mistakes in others, and feel proud.

Madras Eye
by Rudran on May 10, 2009 04:46 PM  | Hide replies

Once, when I was 9 yrs. old, I developed conjunctivitis('madras eye'). I happened to go to school without realizing it. Neither did my parents notice it. But my eye had become increasingly red, in school. One of the teachers asked me to write a leave letter, and get it signed from the Principal, and then go home.

Now, I didn't have an inkling of idea how to go about with writing a letter. I tore a piece of paper from my class note, and wrote :-

To The Principal
Karuna Vidyalaya Higher Sec. School

As I have madras eye, I have to go to the doctor's house. Please give me leave.

Thank you,
Rudran.

I assumed it was a well written letter, and was feeling proud of myself, but the principal(being an english teacher himself) tore the piece of paper, and asked me "Who wrote this letter ?" - seeing his reaction, I told him that one of the peons in the staff room helped me....phew....then I somehow managed to get a proper letter rewritten with the help of another staff.....sigh...the ordeals I had to go thru as a 9 yr. old....horrible.

btw...I didn't even know a term called "conjunctivitis" existed.
I thought of using the term "red eye"....but I remembered everybody at home and other people using the term "madras eye" for this problem.

Later I realized that "Conjunctivitis" was the formal name for this disease.

Poor spelling and presentation

While I was auditing a branch of a nationalised bank in Cuddalore I saw a voucher written by a head clerk of the branch as follows and shocked and asked the Branch Manager how long you are supplying it to the customers of the Bank and the legend in voucher is "Cost of snakes supplied to the customers of the branch during the month of"
the Branch Manager without noticing the error has also passed the voucher for payment and the payment cashier has also paid it to the snacks supplier.

This is indeed a common practice even among higher ranked officers not to re-check about what they have written. One of the most embarrassing examples can be quoted here. The supervisor in the administration branch of my office wrote the annual confidential report of a very honest and hard working employee by submitting the conclusive remarks as "He works hardly !". Next day the effected employee received a warning letter.

sounds fake from your description. Its rare for any recruiting firm to ask for money. They get their due commission from the potential employers.

Generally, the candidate does not have to pay any money. On the contrary, the employer reimburses the travel expenses to and fro. Since they have asked for a postal order, I would be vary of sending the money.
