Mere numbers wont do
by TTT on Jun 12, 2009 01:59 AM  | Hide replies

Just large number of people in defence forces is not going to help much. Strategic and Tactical plans in attack and defence is very much important. Only those who have an aptitude and are really interested should join the defence forces. Any Tom Dick and Harry should not be allowed whatever be their qualifications. They would become as liabilities and overheads then just like in some offices bcos of such poor performing people.

Sir,
With Due Respects... The Service Selection Interviews are organised in such a manner that Tom, Dick & Harry will never be able to clear. And incase they still manage to get through, armed forces training is such that they will not remain what they were!!!

Join Defence through wrong channels and you will regret it on the very first day of your training. Army is not for short-cut people. It is for straight forward men/women

I had a dream during from my school age to join Indian Air Force but I couldn't make it due to family fears, even though I got selected in NDA. Then, after getting through an entrance, joined somewhere and did something which I don't want to focus about. Later, I moved out of India.

By next year Summer time me gonna return to India and I wanted to work for the IAF or Indian Army for few years (say, 3 years or so but not more). Pay size is not at all important to me as I only wish to work for my motherland. Now, my questions are:

a) Do Air Force or Indian Army has openings for highly skilled professionals with a PhD?
b) Is there any age limitation?
c) Any other issues? Like taking NRIs etc

Meanwhile I will also check out with Indian Army and Indian Air Force contacts.

You may try very hard but I am pretty sure you will not get through the SSB interview, from reading your psych from your response , i presume you cannot take on the pressure of the uniformed services and you are a bit indecisive too , so better prepare for some other job.

Thanks pranab, wonder what you really read from my psyche! Maybe you read too much about my 3 years time frame, frankly I thought Army might have minimum mandatory service up to 5 years. I wish to serve by bringing in my expertise in the areas of Electronics and Computers. Example, working in a position for Army Signal Intelligence wing etc.

@ I am pretty sure you will not get through the SSB interview

I tested myself for fun (used to read CSR mag!) before leaving India and got through the CAT and Civils tests. Because of my IIT background, got the Fee waiver at CMU for my Masters and I left for US.

@better prepare for some other job.

Well, you got it completely wrong! Back in India my parents run business with over 1000 staff working in three different units. I don't need to *prepare* for any job anymore because I made by mind either to join the Indian defense services for a brief stint or take over the existing business, start two more companies down the line.

all this time, you never had patriotism towards your country and now it is hard to get citizenship, you are running back. Why didn't you return to india after studies. You will come up with the standard excuse all of you do.

the rape in kashmir was more recent. Poor PM, he paid the price for your nasty soldiers. Don't worry, we crushed the tamils for you, something your army couldn't do.

Mr. Kandy please get your facts right. There is no Indian occupied Kashmir, However part of the Kashmir state of India has remained occupied by Pakis ie POK since independence. And I will also tell you to understand that you were made to win over LTTE with the help of India otherwise Lankans neither have the strength nor the spirit to win any WAR. And remember you have won a battle-- The War is not yet over.....

To make defence forces a better place to work, Govt must stop interfering thr matters. Our forces are too good to be controlled by a lamb president n kamjor govt. They have absolutely no right to endanger lives of our respectable soldiers coz of faaltu govt rules and minimum facilities to forces.Gov sanction funds and gulp it....bloody a s s hol e s....I love defence but dont want my ultimate bosses to be silly prez n pm
