i want to opt for biotech after 12 result as i hv nt applied for mh-cet i wnt to knw wheater there is scope in future and what is the salary and wheather my dission is right for opting biotechknology
hi everybody, your messsages are really good that i had went thro'n has helped me to plan accordingly for the career. As im a post grad of biotech. really awaiting for a well satisfied job n i agree with one of them said, theoretics will not help you for the future. "is it important to have any diplomas in practical training??? "
Sir, I appreciate your comments. You write-up talks about what to study and where to work. I request you throw lights on "Where to study" as there are countless private colleges who offer B.Tech in Biotechnology as getting into IITs, NITs, BITS, etc. is difficult for an average student.
MIT School of Government is Asia’s first institute to offer a one-year, full-time MASTERS PROGRAM IN GOVERNMENT (MPG) – a leadership training program that prepares students for a career in Politics & Government.
Search MITSOG to find out more.
If you are fed up with today’s politicians, want to make a difference in society or want to join politics but don’t know where to start - MIT School of Government can show you the way.
Thank you for your time.
This is Rahul Bhatia helping MITSOG nurture leaders who care.
Most students get fooled by media. The last few years have seen students opting for either IT or Biotechnology. The sad part is that no one is sure of what jobs one can get doing a Biotech degree. Most of the companies listed by the readers give jobs to Chemistry and Pharma graduates. I know many Biotech graduates working in Reception, Marketing Medical Transcription etc. The scope of Biotech is good abroad where there is genuine research going on. But with recession, money has been cut down for research. Hardly any Indian companies do any worthwhile research. R & D is a means to conceal income and save tax. With one of the largest pharma industries in the world churning out drugs in various unethical combinations, can you name any discovered and researched in India? We only duplicate what others do. Even companies making sutures buy them from abroad in bulk and cut, pack and sterilise it here and call it INDIAN

I completely agree with you.I have finished B.Tech in Biotechnology but I have ended up working in a software firm. Most of the pharma companies hire pharma graduates. There is very very less scope in India for Biotechnology. There is no research going on.unless you have very much passion for the subject, I advice not to take this field..I have lot of my friends who have ended up working in banks, marketing, teaching or just doing useless things in lab working for meagre or no salary.

Hello,I completely agree to ul.I have done my Msc in Applied Genetics. But jobless! No 1 replies to emails..N all want experience.I hope there is atleast 1 company/Research insti which trains students and helps them get a job or employs them for research in d institute itself. Most institutes get crores for research but no1 is trained.I hope there's atleast 1 opportunity so tht India will be able to discover more with the young minds employed..Hope d passion for this field is encouraged.

Dear Mr. Norohna, I am an TIFR research scientist. Every field which is in its early stages will have this problem. However, as more trained people are available, enterprises and entrepreneurs grow. Just look at some of the few BIOTECH Companies like BIOCON, Suven Biochem and Saamya Biotech have been doing. Ofcourse, the latter two may be newer and very much smaller than BIOCON but the Genuine Research and Development done by them is path breaking. It is the argument if the HEN came first or the EGG...?? so please do not discourage SCIENCE MINDED STUDENTS. It is a matter of time to see a BIOTECH BOOM in this country.

I strongly agree with Mr Sharma. Even though it is the bare truth in the present scenario, some people in the life sciences stream have very high hopes to be the next Koch or Sabin. So I sincerely hope the passion for this field is kindled!
Bio technology is a booming field. It's not like IT industry where you will have kick start and make money within a short time.
It will take more time to grow in this field and you must have passion towards whatever you do.
The following are the top pharmaceutical companies in the world.
As a Biotechnology graduate you can apply for job positions in any of these companies.
Novartis Pfizer Bayer GlaxoSmithKline Johnson and Johnson Sanofi- Hoffmann AstraZeneca Merck & Co. Abbott Laboratories Wyeth Bristol-Myers Eli Lilly and Company Amgen Boehringer Ingelheim Schering-Plough Baxter International Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Genentech Procter & Gamble Dr Reddy's
Career Opporunities
Laboratory Technician or Research Scientist, Biomedical engineer,Biologist,Drug Dafety and Medicinal Information Specialist, Manufacturing Technician,Toxicologist,Urologist, microbiologist
Again in India the scope is very limited. This field is yet to explored by many of us. In USA/Germany/Canada their is huge demand and lot of innovations are happening in this area.
India will also soon join them. Companies Like TCS,HCL,WIPRo also needs Biotechnology graduatees to understand the data and lot of western companies offshore the clinical trails to and reasearch activities to Indian firms.

Western companies to save more outsource clinical trials. Hospitals in India cook up results and send the reports making a lot of money in the bargain. Result- many defective drugs will be introduced

Do you know what rubbish You have written.... you have listed all the pharma company who mostly ask for Pharma graduate or master degree.....they even reject student with biotech and bioinfo, please dont post irrelevent information and fool people..

well mr. prafull i think u are a frustrated loser to abuse Mr.sukumar.All he did was to help us but sadly fools like U think its rubbish. hope u will see light at the end of the day!
It is well said by professor that biotechnology is set of different biological tools such as microbiology, plant , animal and biochemistry AND some other parameter such as Engineering to design the industrial instruments such as chemical reactor or bioreactor and other instruments because kinetic play a major role in growth and product. These parameter and research is analyzed by biostatic. Pollutants are harmful to all living forms as well as change ecology therefore scientist are working on strain improvement of micro-organisms and these degrade the environment (Environmental biotechnology).
But it is true that people donot know about the biotechnology as a carrier. As I said above that biotechnology is mixture of two or many branches of science. It clear that industry needs exports persons of different science field. Course content in M.Sc. biotechnology is not match with Industry. For example: In antibiotics producing industry needs three main component microbiologist (Production and quality control), biochemist, and chemist. Course content is very poor and due to this, after passing M.Sc. Biotechnology, Students is very poor in microbiology, Chemistry and biochemistry as compared to core master degree in microbiology, Chemistry and biochemistry. These core components make industry.
currently those who study will become asst professors because every day one institiute is newly forming or one more bio tech departmentis opened by existing colleges, as long as it is new vacancy comes only in teaching and lab jobs, saturation point will come after that itw ill become another economics
