If they were Lehman bros would still be in business. Lehman Bros is a prime example that MBA schools are not really what they are meant to be . They are only profit making . That is the reason the dean of ISB can turn around and say they are not placement institutes. actually it is an about face for institutes who claimed that their students would get good jobs.
If B-schools like ISB can equip their students with skill and the confidence to stand on their own feet, nobody will demand placements. Without doing that, decrying the craze for placements is not fair, you're just shirking your responsibility. If your school can neither give confidence nor a job, what are you there for?
An educational institute cannot become a placement agency and should not try to become one. The dean has correctly pointed out that it is the media that has created a hype about student placements and made it one of the factors to rate the Institute. The crime of the institute is to go along and allow a tag to be attached. They basked in the glory when the placements were good but when things turned bad, then they have begun to sing differently. Why does a management institute not disown placement responsibility in their Brochures? Perhaps, this may result in a demand for lower fees from the students and of course be bad from a purely business perspective. The stature of the ISB being what it is, why does it not seek recognition from the UGC or the AICTE as all others do. Would this also mean a dilution of its standards or its working. The Institute should clarify.
I agree when dean of ISB talks abhout the Educational institutation Vis a Vis placement agency. But one thing i would ask about here is the fees of ISB. In my opiniun the higher fees is the value added to our career. If a product cannot sell in market its better to drop it then to carry it. I will not love to spend 22 lakh just like that. I have all the right to expect a good return also. If we take total economic loss i.e. including opportunity cost it comes to a very large figure espcially for us indians. I don't see any problem in asking for placements. if u are adding value to our professional as well as personal life. that should be accepted by industry if not then some problem somewhere. Market is bad no doubt, its better to accept the truth that its difficult to place such a high no. of students.
Presumably when the former Dean of ISB, in his capacity of Chairperson of the board, was okaying a massive transfer of funds to the family of Stayam founders there was a greater social good that was being practised- not to speak of implementing good governance as taught at ISB.
is this guy gone crazy.. As they say, offence is the best form of defence.. so he is attacking the people who r asking for placemnts.. I agree one thing, if the quality of inputs is really good, then there shud be proportionate number of entrepreneurs from ISB. But I dont find this happening..Of course, becoming an entrepreneur is inbuil courage, attitude of a person but ISB also has a role to play... So with less placemnts, even less entrepreneurship, what is the future of ISB students after having paid 20 lakhs ..?? He is a well settled guy if life.. So he doesnt know the hardship of people who have taken loans..
