Why live like a second class resident??
by yetanotherbrickinthewall on Jun 01, 2009 06:09 PM

By trying to curb yourself from doing stuff that you would normally like to do ..... living life like a second grade resident compared to the local citizens.

In return to living like a fugitive,, what do you get?? Big Big $$$$

Or is it that you are still living like a bedoin wanderer with very less money to save??

Great hats off to you people.. Mr.ANurag deserves it.. After all when he himself has got acclamatised to the surrounding he gave tips for others in order to protect themselves na.. He deserves it from you people.. Comparing India with Somalia!!! great.. In fact Somalia is far better, all of the Somalians are starving. But here a few are overfed and waste food wheread the rest of the population starve for food.. Why do you call them as beggars , as though we are'nt..DOnt we borrow from the world bank!!! If you think these things are shameful, then try to repay the loan that India has got.. Please dont charge on innocent people.. Just because they are abroad doesnt mean that they have left our land or shameless..

i am one of the persons who has contributed to the above topic.
you will see my comments under vivek nooney. i am living in australia right now. your comments look like you are not well informed of all the successful people around here. you have to live here to see what sort of respect some indians command here. just because you are in India and living the life of the so called TIGER does not make Indians living abroad beggars in that country nor it means that we have lost our Identity/Values/culture.

so people who are commanding respect are VERY LESS and people who are treated like UNWANTEDS are in great numbers ... as i am telling for those who are feeling UNWANTED have always a better option available ...

Accommodate not the cost of self-esteem
by bimal mohapatra on Jun 01, 2009 05:46 PM  | Hide replies

Here reading some tips from Indians either living in Australian at present or from those who had been there for different reasons, are very useful for those who aspires to go abroad for study or for something else in future and also for those who are already in abroad. This is quite necessary to learn all these tips and wherever necessary one should compromise to an extent that one's self-esteem is not affected because without this a person very existence is reduced to nothing. After reading the above illustrations and recalling the Australia cricket team players attitude on the field in India and in Australian,I conclude Australians are largely arrogant and racial. As per Prof. R.Vaidyanathan, about 1 lakh Indians study in Australian institutions and spend per annum spend 20,000 crores which is big amount from single source for Australia higher education. And many of the Australian institutions are not up to the standard of India's third rate institutions. If this is the thing, why should Indian flocked to there? This what exactly Kartik wanted to know.Answers are:1.Indians have a lot of hidden money in foreign bank. This money needs to be utilised.2.Indian elites want their children to read not sitting with commoners. When they failed to secure one in IITs and IIMs after spending thousands in coaching centres, they send their kids to abroad so that on return they can enjoy special privilege like Pilot,Deora,Sangma, etc.Let's introspect and built world class universities in India.

Going by the results of the recent elections,, one thing is clear - Indian voter is moving away from voting for marathi, caste, relegion, backward etc etc. They just vote for development and action oriented party and not the divisive parties.

Anurag Gangwar(the first contributor) is a loser......
by Utpal Parekh on Jun 01, 2009 04:52 PM  | Hide replies

Read the post above by Anurag Gangwar......just one question for you dude....you passed out from Univ. of South Australia(not southern Australia) and i know for sure that it is the crappiest univ. in Aussieland...atleast Melbourne, Monash are far better.....

Secondly, South Australians are amongst the friendliest people in Australia...much more friendly than Queenslanders or Victorians...Victorians are snotty and stuck up while Queenslanders are the hard drinking types in Brisbane who are not afraid of a punching contest...

South Australians are the most courteous, well mannered people, maybe only after Western Australians........so either your whole story is a fake or you are an exceptionally stupid and naive guy to be subjected to racial abuse...

I'am from Melbourne and in my 9 years in this city, i have been subjected to abuse of a racial kind only once.......in a supermaket, there was a promotional offer run by a chocolate company wherein free toffies were being distributed to all customers........when the girl at the supermarket came carrying a big basket of chocolates, i put my hand inside to take out a couple, when i was rudely told that this is not India and i had to wait until the girl took out a couple and handed it to me...basically, you are not supposed to touch a food basket that is meant for all.....so, i realized that there was indeed a cultural gap......but i adapted and once you adapt, Aussies are the friendliest and most adorable people....

I would say that it is wrong for the girl in the Supermarket to point towards your Indian Nationality but otherwise she was perfectly correct in stopping you from helping yourself

Thats exactly what i'am saying!! We are attuned to Indian culture, and in indian culture, helping yourself is perfectly okay.......that is when i realized that there is a cultural gap and we have to adapt cos it is their country......hope you got my point!!

Hello Utpal,

You are the only one I have ever seen who has replied to a reply positively on this rediff forums... Good job buddy in giving tips. Your explaination clearly shows that you have not only adapted to their friendly culture but also have become nice living there. I like the attitude of Canadians while watching Candid Camera. Can't believe those guys have such a positive attitude towards life and are always well behaved...

What a Suggestion
by harsha on Jun 01, 2009 04:38 PM  | Hide replies

Your Suggestion:

Never ever talk in Hindi or other languages when you are standing next to Aussies. This is a very big humiliating thing to those people. Always talk in English.

My Suggestion:

Also When Australians/ Whites come to India.. Always talk in English and feel proud.. Never utter Hindi or any Indian languages.. They will be humiliated..

So always speak in english to satisy them (in India & abraod..)

Always hide your languages/ culture

....COWDARD>>> GO TO HELL.....

I would say it is better not to talk loud in your native language.. C these things are to protect yourself. when you know people are like that then the only way is to avoid. Logic and reason is only for people who understand things not for people who dont think at all.. But i would also object to this.. It is your fundamental rights to talk in your language among your pals.. But it is equally important to keep the voice in a such a way that it does not disturb others..

we may be poor and cud hardly manage a square meal. still we cud live with our head held high in our homeland rather than getting insults, racial abuse and physical assaults from those aussie and other western barbarian morons. you get humiliated because u go there.instead of searching for good fortunes abroad, stay back in your homeland and lead a life of dignity.we are second to none in this world. who knows after a century we may be dominating this world.

'Adopt their culture without compromising on yours'
by Nirpinder Singh on Jun 01, 2009 04:13 PM

I rather doubt that all of the students who go to Australia from India have the intention of doing as the title of this article suggests. Granted that Society in India is undergoing a transformation as well and what was earlier acceptable only in Indian Metropolitan Cities in terms of behaviour in young persons is now passe even in smaller cities but still it seems a little odd to think that students go all the way to Australia to study subjects for which they could well find College seats in India. Could it be that Australia is attractive since admission standards are not as rigorous there as in other developed nations? Does that also reflect on the quality of study there? If so why do students go there in such large numbers? It seems to me to be a terrible waste of their parent's money and if they are going to end up applying for Permanent Residency in Australia and if they intend to earn money in the interim by doing menial jobs such as plying taxis they it is little wonder that they come in conflict with the lower strata of Society in Australia who probably aspire to the same sort of jobs that Indian students do
