How is it water powered?
by Maximus Meridius on Jul 29, 2009 11:04 AM  | Hide replies

The source of energy seems to be hydrogen, not water, which is the "exhaust". So, how on earth is it water powered? My current petrol engine is not powered by carbon monoxide, but petrol oxygen. So, really, what this is, is a hydrogen powered vehicle. And, hydrogen powered vehicles are not new.

Secondly, they're extracting Hydrogen from fossil fuels. So, you have to do something with the carbon that's left behind. Otherwise, how is this better than just burning petrol? In that case, it's not green at all. They have a 12% reduction in acceleration, which will be more fuel efficient even in a petrol ICE.

The fundamental issue with hydrogen as a fuel is that it releases more CO2 into the atmosphere to produce it, than it saves by being used as a fuel. Unless the electricity comes from nuclear, solar, hydro or wind.

Nice BE project, but it's not original work. The technology to do this has been out there for ages, but it's not cost effective. At least from the writeup, there's nothing that tells me how this is different/better than existing tech.

Some years back another person from South India produced petrol from plant. But he later turned out to be a cheat. Though it is possible to produce some kind of petrol from herbal sources, but it is mostly fossil fuel, and only only part-plant origin. This project does not look like a hoax and big names in Indian industry are involved. But what beats me is how come only Rediff got the news, and others did not, or cared not! Under circumstances, I would support the opinion of Mr Maximus.

Hi Biswas,

It is not turned to be a cheat. He still sells that petrol in a shop in Chennai where he had and still have good number of people turning to his shop to buy that petrol. It is the politicians who were demanding high share on the profit and infact to get the patent of selling it in large scale. He denied to give share to them and hence landed in such controversy.

Dear Mr. Patel,

Nobody is going to lose anything. At the begining some good job, nobody should discourage. More over, this project is being handled by students of the RV College of Engineering (RVCE), we should encourage, rather than making negative comments.

Hope, you can appreciate this.
