They should encourage these shops in rural India - especially toys for men. Like they distribute condoms to check aids. They will go a very long way in checking population. Any thing about sex is disgusted upon in India (age old hypocracy) yet bloody population is about a quarter of the world's and producing like a rabbit colony.
It is incomprehensible as to why,of late, rediff is concentrating on sex subjects as if there are no other items to be dealt with & publicised. What all is written does not appear to be in good taste at all.The article appears to be just a thrash devoid of any educative value & aiming at time pass for some people. The crux of the entire matter is about negotiating the price of the objects & the tricks played by the vendors over the prospective buyers. Further, most of the focus in the article is on the use of sex toys just because the writers happen to be women. One startling revelation that comes to the fore in the article is that sex toys in India are more popular in Northern part- especially Delhi which is reportedly the hub for most of the supply contrary to the wild expectation that it would be Mumbai because of its more cosmopolitan culture. It is surprising to note that 68% of the Urban women in India use sex toys. This appears to be an exaggeration & far from the truth as none can think that more than 2/3 of the Indian urban women derive pleasure from such toys.Where from rediff has got this funny figure which distorts the decency of the Indian women in general? All these days,it has been the impression that such toys are mostly used by women of western countries. If that is so,where are we heading to civilisation-wise?Can we take it as adverse impact of the western culture where it is felt that being cold countries, they use them as sex stimulants? Is Mera Bharat Mahan ??

stop the b*ll sh*t mate. why should not these be written? when are you going to learn to accept anything? using the toys does not make a woman any indecent. After all it doesn't affect others.

I fail to understand what your concern here is. While you have right to your opinion, I would like to know what exactly does this article do in terms of harming the so called 'values' and ethos (except for it looks like written by some moron who passed out from the bottom of the class - poor selection of words). It is also puzzling why you had to deviate so much to draw demographic seggregation 'Northern states', 'Delhi' to stress 'who needs these toys in India', while you advocate Indian women and decency etc. Lets face it. Indians are biggest wind bags when it comes to sex. But again, we do not have qualms about thumping chest about Kamasutra proudly when some 'westerner' says it'a great treatise of love.
Western countries are much more conservative in these things and they are open. They talk. We conceal and hide it to rot. Thats how for every rape reported in India , there are 10 unreported rapes.

we should grow in this affair step by step . First we should allow aged unmarried women or widow to choose her partner passing through depression due to lonelyness .In our country whenever a unmarried w'man or widow is involved with any such affair , they are stamped as 'characterless' to the sociey .Then comes usage of sex toys by single w'man or man when no partners are available . 'Hypocracy' will wipe out in several years to come . Apart from absolute truth 'values' changes from time to time .Like Internet from w'tern countries , vices and values will take newer shapes by its natural course . SO LET US IGNORE AND STOP FIGHTING ....debasish sanyal-kolkata

Mr Bidari!! If the article does not do any thing harmful in terms of values, what the hell of good that it intends except just to give a sketch of shopping of sex objects by a couple of ladies? Is it not just to incite some excitement? Is such excitement through a public forum like this needed?Any thing that remains in a closed fist invokes eagerness & has some value. When once the fist is open,it could be to the surprise of people.Even sex is like that & it has its own value as long as it is not so publicly discussed-that too from such angles of sex toys etc..My post is couched with words conveying cleer meaning. He who fails to understand is a "moron"with low level of education & understanding. One should know that before you point out to others with one finger, all other four will be pointing towards you.Since the article revolved around Delhi & Gurgoan, obiously the focus turned to Northern part.My generalisation was about the Indian women as a whole. I wonder how any one could say that western countries are conservative while it is within every one's knowledge as to how free sex is there. Our culture makes us hide certain feelings within ourselves.Their life style & ours are totally different. We believe in monogamy while they believe in polygamy. What do you say for this?
Unless the mindset of Indian people change, sex toys can never be sold openly in India as it's so openly done in western countries. One suggestion is by using viewing glass self-vending machines like they do mostly in Japan. Again these should be strategically placed in locations eg. pubs, night-clubs, where no children or under-age persons move about. All this ofcourse should come only after our Indian laws allow for their sale.
