Making resolutions for others and our beloved planet
by Nandkumar Kamat on Dec 31, 2009 02:20 PM

It is indeed a self centric, narcissistic world..
Who's not interested in staying Young, live longer, be happy, successful? But our youth, health, longevity, happiness, success is a function of what we do for others and what others do for us and overall what all of us do and wish to do for this beautiful, beloved planet-the womb which still nourishes us...could we be more compassionate?. Could we be little more charitable?. Could we all perform our individual and domestic energy consumption , water consumption, waste generation audits and stop extravagance?. Could we reduce our own carbon footprints?. Could we at least plant with our own hand a single tree, any tree and tend it with love?.Could we have a little more understanding of other peoples' religions?. Could we bring back a little more importance for a typical Indian family and cherish the family values?. Could we make our children a little more spiritual-instead of viewing their blind material pursuits?. How many Indians have really seen the magical milky way on a dark, cloudless night?. Can we teach our children simple joys of star studded sky, the rolling waves, the power of peace and tranquility?. what each one of use can do the whole year to contribute to mutual understanding, social peace, reducing pollution, poverty, disease load, unemployment in some way?. India was always a spiritual and philosphical superpower. We're, a civilization. Let us rise in our spirits and treat material comforts with contempt.
