total mismanagement and fear
by Rohit Madan on Dec 17, 2009 10:37 AM

it was the case of total mismangement.

Earlier candidates have a fear of how will be the paper, questions etc. now they had a fear of how our exam will be conducted. the fear of conducting of exam is more than that of fear of questions.

IIMs shud cancel this and refund the money to candidates or they shud go for retest with paper pencil format.

Adamant behaviour!!!

The problems with CAT 2009 were not the technical glitches alone. many candidates were able to get a feel of the paper on subsequent days and some of the questions had repeated too. This is pure injustice to those who had to take the test on the initial phase.

CAT Failure.

Indecently Indian Management. Companies should stop recruiting MBA s from IIMs. Then only these cruel and indecent practices of IIMs towards the common ordinary career aspirants will stop. They are all higly paid admins who do not care for others. Govt can even stop CAT. Only MAT and individual GDs of management schools are enough to assess one's potential for doing MBA. Are IIMs practising and teaching all unethical practices in their MBAs also ? Firstly let them learn " life " from our poor villagers.

Good decision

Media and students were making issue out of nothing. If the student is good and has prepared well, they will do well. If they have not prepared well they will give all sorts of excuses like this. There is a proverb - a dancer who is not good tells that there is problem with the floor.

It is absurd to say that in an exam like CAT where relative performance matters. Imagine the case when some of the questions repeat, and some student getting access to them. Its not just an imagination, but a hard-fact. Here those candidates who had prepared well but could not garner the questions of the test or had to take the test on an earlier slot will be left behind. If according to your reason, why can't the candidates take a retest when so many people are opposed to the online version held this year. A candidate who has prepared well and is an IIM material will fare well in the retest.

others have to prepare for different entrance tests as well as university exams. Moreover IIMs are brand name, even if they select above average students not the best ones, they will get jobs in top companies. So why bother?

wow what an wonderful excuse. Remember it's not just because of the professors who are responsible for the grand success of IIM's . The crme de la crme of the talent goes to the IIM's . If not for the students where would the IIM's be. Do you think you can take an idiot and manufacture a Genius out of him.. The IIM professors don't do any magic. It's the input, i.e students who are responsible for bringing taking the IIM's to a new heights. Just look how the IIM faculty has managed this exam.. and you are telling that they will manufacture great managers out of morons.. It's because of the quality of the students who, even after being taught by these moronic professors, come out top are responsible for the brand IIM and they should learn to respect that.

Why Bother???
The candidates who actually deserved but were marginalized due to the unfairness of the test would be definitely bothered. It is immaterial whether the ones who graduate from IIM get a top-notch job or not. What matters is to those students who were at a disadvantage due to the nature of the test.

'CAT'ASTROPHE

It appears that there is a very strange reticence on the part of the eminent governing board members to come out and speak against this gross mismanagement. Admittedly, there is axe to grind on both sides, and therefore we are witnessing the 'silence of the lambs', who all hold forth even when there are errors of omission and commission by other agencies.

The who's who of Indian industry are on these Boards, and surely they should hold their own institutions accountable, if that is not too strong a word in this context.

It is a shame that the Institutes which are supposed to teach budding managers cannot themselves manage this exercise. There should have been atleast an apology. This brazenness is just unacceptable.
