Our mind is too dull to appreciate painting, classical music.
by manoj sharma on Dec 20, 2009 03:12 AM  | Hide replies

Not many indian understand painting. Our mind has become dull. Thanks to overdramatic serials and cheap movies full of overacting. It agitates your mind so much that. U just cant live in present moment, cant pay attention to little things in life that create success. We should ban overdramatic video. Only reality show on TV. And art movies in cinema hall for 5 years. Then our mind will become senstive, we can appreciate fine art, pay attentin to chaose on the street. And then we can work to make our home ie india a beautiful place.

Art is what people agree they like. The stupid saas bahu serials are "art" in that there is a sufficiently large audience for it. Of course, people of a certain persuasion gravitate to such works, but it is elitist to say that their choice is wrong. Who are you or I to decide what other people should like or watch? Who are we to say that Bharatnatyam is real dance but say folk dances are not? Or break dance is not? Bharatnatyam became called art because the temple priests and kings promoted it...

You may like a certain form of art and that's cool. Don't tell other people where they should put money to entertain themselves. There may be a good number of elitists who look down upon your tastes and lack of knowledge of fine arts... Do what makes you happy.

It is not the job of society to protect and promote bharatnatyam or kathak. If bharatnatyam, kathak or classical music wants to be relevant to the masses, it should change and try to attact the masses. Not the other way around... All the above art forms were tastes of Kings/priests of their era. It's not created by god, and we need not treat it as such. If they ant to survive, let them be more accommodating of the masses, and explain the beauty of their art form instead of complaining about their perceived inferiority of the masses' minds. It's their failure to promote their art, not of the masses.

Very Well said Maximus. The art and literature for the so-called intellectuals is of no relevance until it tries to reach the masses. It should be like a flowing river which acquires the blend and changes its motion along the region it flows.

by nitin srivastava on Dec 20, 2009 12:07 AM

I visited her exhibition on 15th, I really found it impressive. Especially the two paper made dogs, the posture in which the two paper made dogs are shown lying there was very realistic.
