I just wish that instead of ending up in some gora-land or becoming a corporate coolie, it will be a real achievement if the IITian will return to the fields empowered with his knowledge, determination and ability and work to professionally solve the problems at home.
Best wishes.

look at his point of view ... being an IAS officer will help him bring a lot of prestige to his family ... and if he does make it, it is a great achievement ... if he doesn't still does not take any credit away from this youngster ...

keep it up Suresh .. if only all youngsters are like you, India's future is secure

One of the few cases where government's reservation policy actually was of benefit to the society.
He really deserves it. Way to go, kid!
If you are diffident about your English skills, try writing and reading as much as possible. Also, watch BBC or CNN (if you get those channels there)'s interviews - when questions are asked to others, you try to understand them and answer them. Do this over and over. You will definitely see some improvement.
And chill off wrt Shah Rukh - you know it is all an illusion, don't you? Focus on the real world, the poor people need people like YOU - not the actors.

What Suresh achieved from a humble economic background is no doubt commendable. We are moved by the fact that he achieved what he did inspite of his poverty not inspite of him being a SC!!!

But what if he was from open category.... he would have been still languishing in the potato fields... perhaps Suresh is the best argument for making reservations based on economic background and not caste.

if thats true...Job Reservation is not a poverty eradication programme

how will you prove correct for an IAS (SC) Officer's son getting admission in top job (because in reservation) leaving behind someone (equally capable) in the potato fields..

Job Reservation is not a poverty eradication programme. This is just an effort to remove a peculiar distortion in the society where this extremely poor country called India, having so much of disparities, have a unique situation where numerically smaller few groups have usurped almost all of the oppurtunities available. Incidently these numerically smaller but very powerful gruops are called upper ca***s.

we are NOT "extremely poor" we are the worlds 4th largest economy.

And if job reservation is not a poverty eradication program, then you have virtually destroyed your case for where it is presumed

poverty =deprivation=lower castes

My parents and grandparents were refugees during partition, who came to this country with nothing but the clothes on their backs, they did not need any reservation to survive.

Using the hardships of your forefathers as an excuse for incompetence is just as bad a caste system in itself

Dear Frank,

perhaps we prefer living within our means, if the world were to call in UK's debts today, it wud be in a worse position than India.

Wonder what wud have happened to all the workers in Jaguar Land Rover if TATA wasn't there.

Unsafe? no more unsafe than downtown london after 8PM, and at least there are no skin heads waiting to beat up a "paki".

Filthy and poor ? Sure after loosing more than 1 trillion pounds to UK (the cost of imperalism) I am sure it takes a while to recover.

But I pity you for we look to the future which holds so much promise for us, all you have is a so called "glorious" british legacy.
