HAD A SMOOTH PAPER DESPITE MINOR GLITCHES..
by Guest on Dec 07, 2009 12:51 AM

I had my CAT exam today and my comp did hang once, but the prometric guys at my centre were very helpful, they fixed it in 10 mins and also made sure that no one left the hall after finishing the exam before mine was over.
Over all it was a superb experience, and the quit button does show a prompt asking if u want to quit. So i feel, barring a few odd cases, all the other criticism of online CAT is over hyped, the exam is being conducted very smoothly, in Delhi atleast, and the prometric people are very well trained and helpful. As of the difficulty level in the exam, i think it's the same in all the papers so far so no reason to blame to IIMs for it. It sure is easier than the previous year CAT exams, but then easier for one n all alike.
All in all good show by IIMs and Prometric.

FAILED CAT........
by Nalin Kishore on Dec 06, 2009 09:34 PM  | Hide replies

IIMs cannot find a place to bury their face anywhere. There was NO dry run carried out, a trial test should have been done a few weeks earlier to test the hardware and the software used by them/their team. All the glitches would have surfaced and could have been resolved well in time. The fact is that in the modern day trend of outsourcing without any cross checking of details, IIMs certainly have saved a few pennies, but have landed themselves in shit. This trend is visible everywhere, whether it is in non provisioning of pedestrian crossings over the Delhi-Gurgaon toll road(resulting in pedestrians geting killed daily), or the flooding of new Delhi Airport during the recent rains - the names involved were Hafeez Contractor, L&T, GMR, Tatas and what have you. None went into the nitty gritty of anything. That's the state of Public Private Partnership ventures today.

I could have done some more ques. :(
by Abhai Pratap on Dec 05, 2009 09:15 AM

I can't understand the reason why everyone is hating this online exam. I have given the exam and believe me guys there were no technical glitches. Exam started 1 hr. late but it is not such a thing that you start complaining. It was due to too much load on server and that's why it took some time to download the files from server.
And guys every good thing has to face some criticism in its initial phase. So chill, as someone has rightly said online CAT is the reality. You can't ignore it.

Car is stalled
by deepak deshpande on Dec 04, 2009 09:11 PM  | Hide replies

Prof Deodhar calls switching to computerbased exam as moving from bullockcart era to car. Alas, he has only a third rate car that stalls and can not run. Sometimes it can not even start. Good old bullock cart was transporting students properly without causing pollution. Now Deodhar's failed car runs slower than bullock cart besides causing pollution.

well said deepak...actually, he thinks he bought a Ferrari but all he bought was a nano....underpowered, over-hyped, not yet proven and the few that were seen were up in flames :-)

If he were to travel alone by that car even to Mt. Everest, may be we have nothing to worry. Alas, he took a nation on that treacherous path only to find that the load was too much and has now dumped many into the silent valley...and hopes to silence more !

Example of shamelessness
by deepak deshpande on Dec 04, 2009 09:00 PM

Prof Deodhar's attitude shows his shamelessness.
He is only trying to divert the subject of FAILURE of CAT examination. Not an iota of regret for the FLOP show.No apology for the inconvenience to students whom arrogant Deodhar regards as his bonded labourers. Shameless Deodhar owes an unconditional apology to Students and parents.

Online tests by Prometric
by AswathaKumar K on Dec 04, 2009 02:30 PM  | Hide replies

Prometric is solely responsible for the mess of the CAT 2009 On line tests of IIMs.
Prometric should have ensured the systems and procedures are in place without any viruses and any performance glitches ( systems and networks) with proper evaluation of the requirements needed of the total number of CAT aspirants simultaneoulsy accessing their systems and facilities from different locations in the country.
This requirements of CAT 2009 entirely different with the way GRE/Tofel are conducted across different locations in the country w.r.t performance and networks requirments.
An internationally supported/recognised orgnation bringing IIMs into defame should be made to pay a heavy penalty and should be black listed forthwith for unprofessional handling of an Important event affecting the lives of so many CAT aspirants.
The people loses faith, trust in Technolgy.

not just Prometric and NIIT....IIMs are the bigger culprits. they were the ones accountable to students and test-takers and to Govt. of india. It was their responsibility to plan well, check the designs and systems/processes offered by Prometric. Without thinking about all this, how could they blindly offer them a contract?

Do the IIMs teach students to manage contracts this way? If this is the case, god save Companies that recruit employees from IIMs if they were dependent heavily on outsourcing !

A simple virus can affect test
by amit saxena on Dec 04, 2009 02:15 PM

What is the assurance that the evaluation of the test will not be affected by virus?
People can make virus which transfers money from banks inspite of big security firewalls. What is the guarantee that virus has not affected the answer records.
