5 rules for CAT
by Bhasmasur Rakshas on Aug 27, 2009 02:21 PM

5 golden rules of mental conditioning before the D day...i'am assuming that all of you will put the utmost effort in terms of taking test papers but unfortunately, that is not the gurantee to clear CAT.....
It is all in the mind and many well prepared students lose the mental game during CAT or even before CAT, just looking at the sheer numbers at a centre....

5 golden rules :

A) Don't get intimidated by the sheer numbers : When you go to any CAT centre, you will see the centre teeming with the thousands..don't get intimidated(ohhh, how am i gonna get in when so many take it??)....90% of therm are not serious CAT aspirants...out of the 4 lakhs who are expected to take CAT this year, i can assure you only 40K to 50K are serious aspirants, the rest are there only cos of peer pressure...

B) The fashion statement made by Hip hop boys and girls : At any CAT centre, you will see many hip hop bubble gum chewing group of boys and girls..looking at them, many simple guys get a complex....don/t!! They are there just to make a fashion statement, they are not serious aspirants..

C) During the exam, just sweep thru the online paper atleast once....identify your strength areas and take your strength section first..for eg.i always took reading comprehension first cos it was my strength....

D) Try and secure the minimum cutoffs in the weaker sections, that can be done by identifying the simpler questions in those sections...

Just curious :)

I am a regular visitor to Rediff discussion forums. I generally find that people react very strongly to a person's remarks or comment demeaning him.
I just wonder if we are all so frustrated and stressed out nowadays, that we have to demean and insult a person in such a strong fashion.
There is simply no tolerance for another person's viewpoint.
Any achievement published on this page, and there are quite a few ready to sully and insult the achiever.
Definitely not good for either the writer or "replier". Leaves a bad taste in both.

Regarding the article
by Jayanth on Aug 26, 2009 11:59 AM

I respect the fact that the person has tried to rationalize the entire CAT exam based on historical trends. Though, I would take comments like ignore certain sections with a pinch of salt. Its a bit risky to take such a blanket stance. For instance, if in 2009, there are 5 parajumble questions, the above trends would significantly vary. When looking at trends, its more important to understand what people setting the question paper are trying to achieve (in short the drivers).
I would disagree with most comments which state that institutes don't play a role in preparing the students. From personal experience, they make you aware of the various question patterns through their test series. I would advise CAT aspirants to look at these very seriously.
Ensuring good knowledge of basic concepts in maths, DI, English is def key and should be given paramount importance. Improving vocab is important, but, its more important to be able to guess the meaning of a word from the context. After all its choice based and you could attempt to guess which choice is closest to the truth.
Closing note: To discerners, I don't own a training insti; have successfully been through this rigmarole before, therefore, thought of sharing a few friendly pointers.
Best of luch

Fake claims

Just ask this director how many students from his institute clear CAT every year and forget that, even make it any of the top institutes. He would be ashamed to mention the figure and will be telling blatant lies. Who authorized this numb skull dumbo to give his so called CAT clearing lecture here.

Institutes like him and Professional tutorials are plundering people of their money. In times of recession, clearing CAT, cannot get anyone a very promising job.

too good rely my Mehta. Well the truth is that most institute offers coaching and guidance to create an environment and opportunity to take the exam with great mental ability and learned skills. It is again the self aspiration of students how he manage his schedules and studies. If giving admission was in the hand of the institute then why do all this hard work ask them the easy way If you think Money Can Buy Everything...

the true fact is they never give us any magic ..they just revise us what we know and sharpen our minds out..rest is all upon us...we still have more than 30% students who don't go for any of these institutes but make it to the IIMs...this is a fact..what these institutes do is business...and nothing wrong in it until guys like us need them
