All spiritual practice help you in reducing stress.
by manoj kumar on Aug 21, 2009 05:36 AM  | Hide replies

More than yoga asana. Some budhist meditation and pranayama are very helpful. They make you self aware which is key to all kind of success and happiness in life. Vipassana, osho dhara, landmark forum. they all make you self aware which is key to reducing tension and higher energy. Usually indians lack energy, westerns have lots of it.

Manoj, Yoga Asana also include Pranayama and Meditation. And meditation is not linked to budhism or hinduism. It is universal. Your theory of Indian lack energy and western have lot of it is not true. Possibly, you may phrase that Indians, eventhough have energy never practiced with a focus. Westeners have a habit of focusing and reaching the goal, whether they have energy or not.

shavasan is a asana which gives calmness. This Asana can be done right after an asana practice
The very aim of this asana is to relax each and every muscle in the body. In order to reach or attain this aim it becomes necessary to take the position in which one finds all the organs of the body in a comfortable and soothing state.

The word yoga is not restricted to Brahmins. It is universal. Whoever practices and find it good for them they can follow that. Whoever find it waste and talk about scientific proof, let them not follow. End of the day, there are many ways in which one can keep themselves fit. This may be one of the way, but it should not linked to religion. By the way, when people who practiced this 2500 years before, what kind of benefits they got no one will be able to establish today. However, when such practice continues even after 2500 years, only tell that there was a benefit felt by many and hence it continues. And, why you want to restrict your women folk? Don't they have freedom to do what they want? It is a fixed mindset, right?

There is much proof for those who want to see it.
PROF NAMAZI has called NAMAZ as the yoga of Islam, there also you have to do indirect breathing via prayer and postures or asanas.

If you do these you will be doing good exercise for all your systems and in case not then mobility disorders are visible signs of laxity and improper doing is what is said.

Please advise

You are doing it unknowingly five times a day! No, I am not joking or degrading, if one observes how Muslims do Namaz,it is form of a exercise included in prayer. Also, there are asanas coming in it, whether you like it or not!

please refer to some scientific journals, that have evidence based empirical research on the benefits of yoga. Sage publishers and Emerald are some sources you can look up.

Half knowledge is more dangerous than not knowing at all. Please choose your words carefully while you put them in a public forum.

Shaif, just because muslims dont have the concept of yoga does not mean that its wrong and a muslim girl should not do it.
Grow up buddy, be open minded first before expecting others to be open minded.

congratulate shammeem akhtar though being a muslim she has adopted and practiced and preaching hindu version of body caring. This only signifies that change in religious attitude is happening and inshaallah it will be good for the indian communities and above all nation. She has done something which polticians could not acheive in community harmony.
