Will focus on the lower cast, which is an important area of focus

Will focus on the lower cast, which is an important area of focus. Rs.5000 for 2 year delay is not a big amount for the middle and upper class. In fact, its non existant number. Im sure to focus is on the villages and poverty strucken people. I feel this is a good start in the right direction. However, maintaining control is important. If you give 1,00,000 couples such incentives - do you have 1,00,000 or even 40,000 people to make sure its abided. We already have financial debts on our mind, and the govt. finances are going into "Air India" aids. Im sure the govt. has thoughtfully planned this.

I think it's a good right direction move, as long as it actually works. Monitoring couples for 2 years, will not be that easy assuming number of people focused on will be high.

Long-term benefits can be seen only on knowing the full details of the plan and its execution steps. This 3 paragrah report/article lacks information. 2,366 couples is hardly going to change much. I guess when this number grows the question will be monitoring and making sure they dont go from their word (couples) and what happens if they do. Strict actions will only cause a rebel.

I think Rediff should elaborate the plans and the working. Other than than, on face value looks interesting.

I THINK EVERY INDIAN COUPLE THINK ABOUT SINGLE CHILDREN, IT WILL HELP US TO CONTROL THE POPULATION. IF WE HAVE SINGLE CHILDREN THE COUPLE WILL HAVE MUCH TIME FOR THEIR ENJOYMENT.

It's a very wise step taken. At least now people have started understanding the importance of such initiatives. Yes It should be definitely introduced all over the country.

Good Idea!!

Yes such initiatives are welcome. I think Govt. should also take intitiative to encourage single child family. If the couple wants another kid they can opt for adoption, again some incentive in form of free education for adopted child should be provided to promote adoption. Such schemes will in log run definitely help curb the population growth

any payment needs accountability
by wizardo id on Aug 17, 2009 12:00 PM  | Hide replies

india is a land of frauds perpetrated at every level for compensation of any kind. usually, there's a broker for every single of these scams, and the chief beneficiary of the broker is the politicians/ beaurocRAT just above him.

much of the schemes like NREGA/ PDS have very little accountability.

I feel that the project must be introduced across the country.

The so called cash incentive is very meagre. HOW MUCH IN THE SUM ASSURED REACHES THE COUPLE IS ALSO A DECIDING FACTOR.

I donot forcee long term benefits with this scheme since it is not going to be reaching the target audience in a proper manner.

THE GOVT MUST CONSIDER EDUCATING THE COUPLES RATHER THAT SHOWING CASH INCENTIVE.
