I myself been a pilot and when someone switch on the phone in cabin ... trust me there is noice in conversation with ATC... All flight attendants say it will interfare with Navigation system .. No one says Cell phone On will crash the plane ....

Actually the reason plane companies stopped getting air from outside was because they were no longer required to by international air travel controllers because smoking had been universally banned on airplanes. Earlier because smoking was permitted air HAD to be recirculated, but this requirement along with the allowance for smoking was taken away.
