At the same time easy availability of paper and green bags only will guarantee complete eradication of plastic bags.People must be encouraged to carry bags from home to shop rather than relying on disposable bags given at the stores
Such a step is the only way to curb plastic bag usage in cost-conscious India. We Indians are not in a position to change anything in our lifestyle unless it comes to pinching the pockets
If such a step of not encouraging the purchasing of plastic bags is helpful, definitely I am for it. A law should be enacted on a national level so that all states will be covered and the result will be good and encouraging. We should copy the state of New York in this regard.
Yes we should charge heavily for each plastic bag issued. For thinner and cheaper bags the vendor should be so taxed that he will have to charge atleast Rs. 2.00 per bag. The govt. body should pay Rs. 1.00 to rag pickers for every bag collected and deposited. This will ensure that no plastic bag remains on roads, pavements or gutters. - Sunil Mohile
Our shop-keepers are already charging in the cost of the product we buy. The MRP is way above the actuals. The profit margins are stupendous. They dont have to charge separately. 3/12/08
Well... If people are really determined to reduce environmental footprint and save earth from global warming, which as everyone knows will sooner or later lead to the worst natural disaster ever, then we should do something about it! Plus, for your information, Taiwan is also the country where convenience stores, corner shops etc. charge consumers for asking for a plastic bag, so why don't people ever consider bringing an environmentally GREEN bag for what they buy at stores? Do you know how long it takes to decompose all these materials made of plastic?
small bag avl with bhaiyya = 5 rs. (legalise them and earn money). shooping centers who distribute bags to customers as if they have finish the stock on that say only should also be penalised and the bags should have price range of 5 rs to 10 rs. those who carry own cloth bags shouls be encouraged and discount should be given to them upto 2%.
Banning or billing the plastic bags is impossible in india. But if everyone think in the same way then we can do this. The following steps to be taken. 1)POLITICAL INVOLVEMENT should be restricted only banning the plastic covers. Later on they should not put hurdle in applying the law. 2)Stop the production of all plastic covers. Law should be very strict in this matter. If anyone found selling or giving the plastic cover dont impose fine...just close the business. 3)Police should be given vast powers to see that no one should use or buy or sell the plastic covers. 4)Before all this the government should see that alternative packing covers should be available. 5)Or another way is to increase the excise duty and sales tax to the abnormal level so that it should be discourage for everyone to use the plastic covers. 6)First of all the Indian political should not take the advantage of this issue.
Then see there will be no chocking of water pipes and no deaths of poor animals who eat the covers.
