Martians anyone?
by untu on May 23, 2009 12:31 AM

Arms, underarms, legs, "eye-brows" and upper lip should always be "hairless".

Hairless eyebrows??? LOL!!!

Anyone want a martian? Or are women supposed to be from venus?

Yes for body odour and bad breath but the rest too much. Also body odour and bad breath are found in few - say 1 or 2 in an office.

Forcing women to shave off all hair from below neck region - I don't agree. This is individualistic. We all have our preference. One person's style need not be the best for all.

I don't like mustache in women but as a guy, I like women who have hair in the pubic and underarm regions. Arms and legs are never an issue. It's never too much. Humans are not chimps. Natural is sexual. As a guy, seeing bald pubic region or underarm is a big turn off for me. She would just be a friend but never a sexual partner for me. Again, the key, individualistic.

Suneeta has written this with good intentions, i'm sure but the responses by smylav and others are intelligent and anupama should think again before dismissing them. of course body odour can be offensive and we should certainly do something about it, for nature is far from perfect. but then going far from nature is dangerous too. for instance, blocking the pores using anti-perspirant can never be a good, long-term idea, for it would only lead to eruptions or reactions elsewhere on the body. And while body hair does seem unattractive and nuisancical, for most part it is only faulty perception and artificial and thoughtless beauty stereotyping. going on the war path and ruthlessly seeking to eliminate hair as if it is an enemy is unnecessary violence on oneself. But one can resort to it in case of distressing social situation,of course, selectively and minimally.

Stop forcing women to thread eye-brows
by smylav on Nov 26, 2008 10:42 AM  | Hide replies

Honestly, i see no reason why women should shape their eyebrows. At best, you can leave it to an individual's choice. But why do you equate it to something like hair on upperlip or chin and make it seem gross, thus creating some pyschological complex/ pressure on women to shape their eyebrows? I have utmost revulsion for those pencil-line like eyebrows. Why push this barbaric painful act of eyebrow shaping as etiquette? To me (male), and hopefully to many right thinking people of both genders, woman's eyebrow shaping is not a definitive aspect of her looks/ etiquette.

Please stop torturing women and men thru perversions of psycho-cosmetic idealogical torture.

Some professionals push their profession(and their ecosystem's) to keep the money coming. I have seen some priests, doctors, trainers etc offer silly ideas to fleece money and ensure their profession's cash flows stay healthy. Very few have the guts/ security to just let things be(like a good doctor not prescribing a medicene unnecessarily and instead just saying "don't take heavy food today, just have some butter milk regularly, and have this antacid, you will be fine by tomorrow am". Compare this to the Doc prescribing a 10 Rs tablet to be taken thrice a day for 3 days just to addres some simple indigestion issue).

I am not dissing the rest of the article. But she has no right to pedal this idea as a "MUST" for fitting into the larger society. This creates an unhealthy pressure on women.

I endorse your views buddy. The nature has provided everything at the right place. Now if somebody is plucking his/her hairs from eyebrows, armpits or genitals area is going against the nature.
Bathe regurlary and keep ur body clean, no need to go for extra measures like plucking or shaving the hairs. It will make the skin suffer, become listless while losing natural sheen after prolonged use.
