Boosting of % even though paying less
by Joshy Raj on May 26, 2008 09:48 AM

Hi Techies,

I have been working in a programming support company for the past one and a half year.I started with a very meagre payscale. But I didn't complained understanding the fact that I was a fresher that time. But the company promised a pay hike in 6 months in paper and adds two months to it in reality. So i got 2 hikes.I worked really hard, sincierely hard, and at the end of 8th month I got a review report with a score above 8 out of 10.Only thing was not much was the hike.I didn't complained then. But the same thing repeated after another 8 months(6 months according to company). This time rushed into the managers cabin and asked for an explanation. He spoke beautifully to believe me that I am paid immensely. His point was percentage. He told me that initially i got 30 % hike and after the second I got 50 % but he cleverly hide the fact that my initial salary was one of the lowest. He used to throw this theory whenever an unsatisfied employee comes for explanation. Also at times he will also remind us about the leaves taken.Actually we get only 12 casual leaves an year and a maximum of 12 medical leaves. These casual leaves can be taken only on the reasons they put in their combo box in the leave application form.In short most of the leaves are put there in a way for them to dissaprove. And after all this manager guy(i m not sure i can call him as a manager) always takes leaves according to his will.He manages himself to get good money.Rich getting richer,Poor getting poorer.

Fudged appraisals
by MKM GEN on May 25, 2008 07:08 PM

There are people who force their juniors to give negative a360-degree feedback on their competitors. Senior officers entice juniors with offers to give them good feedback provided they'll write negative feedback on those whom the seniors don't like. And so on....it's a farce.

Appraisal Vs Resigned
by Braj KISHORE on May 22, 2008 11:16 PM

I think, this is bad idea to threatened for the resignation, because this takes the one on the wrong side. Rather, one need to sit down with the corresponding authority and have a talk and put the plus point as well the opinion about the organisation. This always put the positive impact on the person sitting on the other side. Also, before that be prepare for any kind of bombardment from the other side. For this, need to ready the answers of some of the pre-assumed negative points. For others, you can think over there only and reply. And, even then, employer representative is not softened to you and could not convince her point, only then the option of resignation comes in the picture. See, important point is that everybody want to proof herself as the right person. So, whoever got the communication over there, that person win.
This is not like that, I have never left the orgnisation. Currently, I am working in the 3rd organisation of my career. First company, I left for my personal reasons that I clearly told my employer. Second organisation, I faced the problem of hike and salary. Over there, when things could not materialized, then I left that.

are the employer doing the right thing
by ramamurthy sridhar on May 22, 2008 05:23 PM

ireally doubt most of the company not even considering the staff to promote them are having any sort of appraisal every year. I found some company they dont even talk to the staff if april or may comes and in tern before the employee ask they will give some reason to delay the process. How the employer should act once every financial year over they haveto call all the staff and figure out what the employee needs and they shoud encourage them by one to one talk. First thing is all the employer should fix one day or two days it depends on the strength of the employee in an organisation and jot out the employee name discuss with them about the minus and plus of the each employee and according to their skill and contribution to the company over all performance etc. and give performance wise increment and addition to this considering the cost of living according to the present economy there should be one increment that means overall an employee should get better rise and should be happy to continue in the same organisation for ever. Most of the company in india they do not have financial disepline that is why they are not able to run the show properly.

1 million reasons
by anish balakrishnan on May 22, 2008 04:42 PM

Our company has shown 1 million reasons why they wont be giving us good pay hikes as the previous years!! As compared to the last year's 20%, this year its only a meagre 10%..and above all they have included a variable pay in this amount.
They neatly define the US recession and other internal policies but why dont they also remember that the inflation is also high and its not the same India as it was last year.
Dollar price will come down and go up, but once the appraisal period is over, it comes after 1 year. They will never ever moderate the pay scale if the US markets get stable.
This is absolute stupidity!! Yes i agree since this is a private company they have the authority to recruit and dismiss any employee, but what will be the charm of IT industry that made India on the Global map.
No one is planning to stop the hikes of the overly paid CEOs. Its because of the the individual toiling of the ordinary employees that these managers and CEOs are getting recognition and huge salaries!
there has to be a vast policy change in the atructure of the appraisals. Every appraisal should be crystal clear and each hidden policies should be abolished!
India is yet to emerge as a superpower in IT. Let not the morale of IT engineers go down before it becomes too late.........

Appraisal Delay !!!!!!!!!
by Anand on May 22, 2008 03:26 PM

My company has an evaluation period for an year from April to March, but the appraisals are implemented only from the month of July u.e., you effectively get the appraised salary only in the month of may. Everyone gets a minimum hike of 15% & exceptional work will get you 19%. What a huge difference!!! For example, if your CTC is 10000, you will definetely get a hike of 1500 and if you have made exemplary contribution you will get a hike of 1900. The difference between an hard worker and a normal worker is just Rs.400!!! With the inflation shooting high this year will be crucial!!! The number of perople switching jobs is going to be higher in this FY.

Appraisal - Uprise of the mass
by sridude on May 22, 2008 01:43 PM  | Hide replies

This year has been the year of inflation framed by Market Analysts. Oil prices are soaring high and affecting every aspect of life and the only driving force to curb that additional expense is the Appraisal percentage income on the salary to sustain and be at par with last year%u2019s budget if not stoop down. With the current Industry down trend, unfortunately the percentage also took a hit in companies-All sectors. People who gave their 150% hoping for best fitment was shown the door to meet expectations as the cap for above expectations was limited and could not fit all. Where does it leave the employee's hard work, effort and great a lot of time that they spent away from family and loved ones to be rewarded, yes! We have one box of peanuts and some left over pizzas so help yourself. Be happy, others only got a box of peanuts and you need to be tight-lipped about the left over pizza. I did get my pizza but that ain%u2019t enough to fill the bills-as a matter of fact, this year I am going low on savings compared to last year. An years worth of effort is not enough to sustain savings so what does the next appraisal stands to offer
repercussion:
1) My morale is down and therez no motivating factor
2) I don%u2019t want to give in even 100% as the difference in slab is just 2% more so why slog it out.
3) I wanna jump job for a hike coz inflation is making a hole in his pocket and I can%u2019t afford a luxurious life style.
Seriously considering delivering papers for additional income now.
