I think this is one of the best messaes I have seen on rediff. People may have diferent perceptions(those who are expressing views) but the author touched the basics here.
1. I have no credit cards.
2. I think twice to take the car to Office
3. I have stopped using my landline ever since both of us (Working ) got our mobile and we use the mobiles sparingly.
4. There is no remote control at home. we walk it to the TV.
5. We always take our own snack to the once in a blue moon visit to the theatre.
6. We plan our Use of Provisions and other purchases.
7. We regularly skip our dinner. Not that we are starving, but it defenitely helps our health, unlike somebody expressed his anger on skipping the dinner. My friend, eat more in the Morning/Lunch. If you want to supress your anger better skip that dinner(Heavy Dinner)
8. These are the things Iam following bofore someone suggested, on my own, I am with the author for his valuable advice, if any one takes it is fine.
9. I repeat again, do not use that cedit card, we are not in US, where you will be seen very suspecious if you say you don't have one.

Learn from Japan

I have seen two things at Japan. 1. Many people in Japan use bycycle for all short distance travels ( upto 5 kms). I have seen Europe too.
2. More interstingly , they have " No car Day" once in a month where people do not bring their cars and travel by public transport. Offcourse their public transport is too good. This saves fuel and reduce pollution too.

US strategy to Rule
by mahe on Jun 20, 2008 11:37 AM  | Hide replies

There is no real oil shortage in the world. The rise in oil prices a a powerplay by US to control the world ecnomies and US itself is going through a recession. When the Dollor came down to 33Rs and even did worse against the Euro... the US used its oil card to spring to global power

true. Actually US has enough of its oil reserves - it'll drain the rest of the world first to be the last oil-rich country. A joke circulating on SMS reads as follows - Petrol shortage? Blame india...Food shortage? blame india...Thank our stars that mrs, bush is not pregnant!

what our center is telling us: eat less and travel less?
by First Last on Jun 18, 2008 01:18 AM

we don't install pm's-ministers who deliberately starve our children, by shooting up prices nation-wide,
that the average indian is working ONLY SO THAT HE CAN FEED HIS FAMILY.

we don't need your advice.

you were put at the center:
- to create progress,
- to stop terrorists,
- to develop our culture,
- to make our country strong.

since you have been doing exactly the opposite,
we are in grave danger today,
as a nation...

hundreds of millions of our people are barely eating one square meal a day...

next: do we eat grass??

savings of fuel is necessary
by Hari on Jun 13, 2008 02:20 PM

There is no public tranportation from my residence to office.
I own car. used to take daily. but now, i take it only when it is raining heavily.
i could have also used rain coat on 2 wheeler , but is unsafe some times and your are stranded if roads are heavily flooded.
so save fuel for yourselves and for the nation.

food habits and savings
by Hari on Jun 13, 2008 02:13 PM  | Hide replies

I think food articles have realy become expensive. Price of milk, edible oil is also sky rocketing.
so some cost cutting measures.
1. drink tea instead of coffee.
( les milk consumption , and coffee more costly).
2. Use cow milk instead of buffalo
buffalo milk contains lot of fat, not good for health.
3. use sunflower oil(cheaper) in place groundnut oil. this is good for heart.

This is absolutely outrageous
by p on Jun 13, 2008 02:12 PM  | Hide replies

Who advises these things? This is ridiculous, the author has no self respect and probably thinks that neither does anybody else.
1. Use office internet for personal work. This is outright cheap.
2. Don't forget to ask them to bring their own refreshments/snacks/ meals. Cheaper still.

This looks like a work of extremely uneducated induhvidual[sic]

hehe, i think u need to befriend Mr./Mrs.P here. this will ensure u dont have to take ur own snacks when u get invited by 'P'.
This is, i'm sure, cheap "even furhter still".
but these are expensive times and cheap is highly valued, esp when its accompanied with smart.

Mr./Ms. P!

Appreciate your response.

But the author has a point. If every sane individual-read educated like you( i am assuming this)does practice these few steps, there will definitely be a change in our resources-however small that might be

I am also assuming that you WORK in office-and not spend your time calling people-so the question of using the office provided internet-to chat with your near and dear ones does not hold here-well, if you are in Sales, a mobile phone is necessary..

Also, what is the issue with bringing your own snacks? Is that that demeaning?Hell, actors get their own snacks to sets-i am assuming you are NOT the CEO of some hot shot company-well, cycling which is a good method of reducing air-pollution, your own costs, and good for your own health may definitely sound DEMEANING and utterly below your standards, right?

The author-and i am not his/her friend-simply means good for all of us-Hats off to them-atleast they are making some effort to reduce our own cost, use less of resources, instead of thinking about their own SELF RESPECT and their STATUS.

Grow up-it will help you and your family, and others too-land back to earth Mr/Ms P!!

ok, u dont believe that:

- by shooting up prices nation-wide,
that the average indian is working ONLY SO THAT HE CAN FEED HIS FAMILY.

- hundreds of millions of our people are barely eating one square meal a day...

one day going to work or back:
just stop at any poor person on your route...
just ask him:
- how many times he eats per day,
- what he eats per day...

you'll know the truth...what the center has done to our nation...
