things u shud do-
1. play according to the landing local time of destination. if ure landing in the morning (local time) - sleep off as soon as u board the flight. If ure arriving at nite - force urself to stay awake, reach the destination & then sleep off.
2. drink very less alcohol, less food & loads of water.

things i do-
1. whether i sleep or not depends upon wats on in the movie channels...often the inflight entertainment is a couple of months ahead of most cities...
2. drink (alcohol) and eat to my heart's content!!

jet lags a necessary part of travel...accept it. dont spoil ur flight experience for it! :-)

Sleep cycle is easier to control

Eg while flying Westwards say India to the US, sleep as much as possible. You land in the US relatively fresh in the daytime. While heading back force yourself to remain awake in the second leg - you return home dog tired a little after midnight and can sleep immediately. I've figured that that takes care of the sleep cycle. But it takes a few days for the rest of the stuff to come together ... appetite, the tired feeling, grogginess. Our only hope - if video conferencing becomes more common place and reduce travel !

Beating jetlag

What works for me is: the moment I sit in a plan I start trying to follow the routine of the other time zone. For instance if I board a midnight flight from India to US, I try to be awake for the first leg (~8 hrs. till Europe) and then try to take sleep in the next leg.

Something that works for me in terms of reducing the effect of jet lag , is to adjust your wrist watch as soon as u board the flight as per the destination time .It psychologically gives u more time to adjust as ur mind gets accustomed to the new time many hours earlier than actual landing.
