This wife of mine (poor thing!) never lost weight on Karwa Chauth. I always showed my affection for her by sabotaging her fasting plans. Simple way! I'd load a plate with her favourite dishes and silently sit in front of her, slowly chewing the savouries.I'd smack my lips and lick my fingers in an exagerrated manners. She'd break into tears and tear at her hair in frustration and break my plate. I now own a bald wife! and several broken plates...
I was pleasantly surprised to read about husbands who observe a fast for their wives. But still I firmly believe that Karva Chauth is another tool for the oppression of women. If a woman loves someone, she doesn't need a special day to pray for his long life and well-being.

Raksha-bandhan is another such oppression tool. Why should a woman display her love to her brother. Isn't it obvious?
The difficulty is if during the karwa chauth, my wife keeps fast, even if she is not feeling well. This time she was having double malaria and still she kept the fast. Now admitted in Hosptial. It is good to show caring for each other, but females should give priority for their health too.
EK samay ki baat hai.Lakshmi ji ka waahan `ullu` unse rooth gaya aurbola ,` apki sab puja karte hain mujhe koi nahin punchha.Lakshmi ji boli `abse har saal meri pooja se 15 din pehle tumhari pooja hogi.us din Ullu pooje jayege.Tabi se Diwali k pehle us din ko KARWA CHAUTH kehkar manaya jata hai.
I have fasted along with my wife on karwachauth day for the last 17 years, except the year she was pregnant when neither of us fasted. It is a traditional festival which should be carried on. I carry on all my normal proffesional activities during the fast.I am a surgeon with a busy schedule, but I don't let that come in the way.
Well, There was a tradition. Then in between a generation seem to forget it. Now the tradition has come back thanks to the media. The way forward is , first of all the greeting card companies should come out with special cards. Archies should sell them. This should become a fashion. Rediff shopping should allow US-India gift pack facility. Pubs and Clubs should arrange special occassion ceremony for this. Unless we do this I dont think next generation wil ever remember this rich Indian tradition.
Karwa Chauth is traditional and old festival but now it is commercialised and moreover basic rules are also changed.Actual fast is from midnight to sighting of moon in the evening without any sagri etc and tea coffee in the afternoon. So celebrate the Karwa Chauth in original form and not heraferi(sugri/fugri)form. Be Brawe
