Company A & B
by abhay pimparkar on May 14, 2007 03:33 PM

In such a situation it is very difficult to choose. But as a professional in the field I should choose comapny A because company has decided to take you and stopped the searching, in case if you rejects it will be unprofessional (if you thinks to join company B for only monitory benefits)and may hamper your creditaility in the market.Even if you want to join B you should inform the company A with all facts and problems honestly with a sorry note.

If u wants to work with B then join the same. this world is very professional.here you may end up to wrong decision. But life doesn't end.opportunity will come again.Learn to take your own decision. And never think that i have said yes to one company and how can i join B. Be professional, people will respect you.

Offer of Job from previous Company
by Rajat Sharma on Apr 30, 2007 04:19 PM

I have worked in a Ltd. Company for 8 years, previously as Asst. Manager Development & during that period the salary increase was only Rs.2,000/- (for 8 Years). After that I shifted my line to Sales & Marketing, & started fromn the bottom. In a period of 4 Years, I have got good Promotion as a manager from sales executive & am getting double the salary of the previous company. Recently, I met the Director of the previous Company, who invited me back to join there company at Good remunerasion. I have yet to make up my mind because, the conditions over there would not have changed drastically & again stagnation would set in after some time. Please advice so that I may make up my mind

I was exactly in the same position. I called up the HR person in company A and told him I had this other offer from B and would like to take it but sincerely apologised for the inconvenience.

A or B
by Somnath PaulChoudhury on Mar 22, 2007 06:13 PM

I will tell a similar story as this. It happened only recently. In his case a job offer was made to a candi in a good company. He was apparently satisfied. He meanwhile got a raise from his present company and found himself more eligible to demand more. At the end he is yet to decide and is still with his old company.
Certain skill set in IT are more demanding and the fruits of hard labour should be reaped now but with a limit of discipline. There is no harm in informing otherwise you lose sleep, throwaway old SIMs ........

I don't know about legal actions, but most of the time salary getting delayed means your company is not doing well (but there could be few exceptions).
It might be your legal right to complain against such action, but I would advice you to play safe and look out.

Job Hopping
by Attract Ivist on Mar 22, 2007 01:50 PM  | Hide replies

There is nothing wrong with changing jobs as long as you know what you want to achieve. But you might want to be little careful to keep it minimum.

1. when you make a move, make sure that all your issues/concerns with your current employer are addressed by your prospective employer. It could be your comsensation, your work or your manager(in my case these three have been the reasons all the time). There is no point going from one hell to another hell. Get as much information as possible about your responsibility, your manager's personality, your compensation details and the company's roadmap. Ask questions and do background check.

2. Ask objective questions to your prospective employer e.g. immediately afetr joining what work you would be doing for next two months; if you prove yourself, will you get a change to do work X, Y, Z in next N-months etc. This would also give you an idea about how clear roadmap they have. But finally these all are promises and there is no assurance that these would be fulfilled. Regarding compensation, never consider the variable part of it while making the decision. If you get it, it's bonus.

3. Have a short term goal and a long term goal to achieve in your next company. Once you join a new company, make sure that you achieve your short term goals at any cost over next 2yrs. assess the situation after you have achieved the short term goals. If things are going fine, carry on to achieve your long term goals. Otherwise switch the job. Short term goals are very important as you would like to see youself in a better position in your next company.

The frequent job hoppers, i'm sure you would be bugged by HR professionals about your commitment. Well, commitment can't be unilateral. In one such interview, I was extremely fed up and I told them that my commitment was as good as their commitment and as long as they were committed to fulfill my aspirations, i was commited to stick on to their company. Needless to mention, I didn't get the offer :) Keep it in your mind, but don't express bluntly :)

Finally, any company would like to have a good candidate who has changed ten companies rather than a bad candidate who has stuck to a company for ten years. Good exposure with stability is the perfect combination, but you know life is never so perfect.

Friend, I don't have much idea about financial services nor about Mumbai. So what I say might not be the best advice. My advice would be not to quit. The reason being that your current organization has promised you better compensation and a better job profile. Give it a try, work for a year, if you don't like it then look out. This will ensure you a better monetary deal and a better position in your next company.
You don't know what is waiting for you in the other company. So play safe. Moreover it doesn't make any sense to change a company without significant gain, be it financial or work related.

THX a bunch for ur advise. after a lot of brainstorming I've considered to join Viteos (put in my papers b4 i saw ur reply)whch is giving me better package than my current organisation. I'm taking a lot of risk I agree by jumping into unknown but if I dont dare it now I will never ever forgive myslf for loosing out on a gud offer.my intution tells me i wud get to learn more from Viteos. things are now looking promising (wrkwise more than pay package)here @ present wrkplace just because I informed them about my move. This has given me sort of mixed signals, doubts & confusion if my wait here is worthwhile.before this my pleading on better profile went to deaf ears.that makes me feel not how genuine this is going to be for my future assignments if i stick to my current job.

Stick to your present job. Upgrade your skills, choose one platform to work with, dont mesh up things or else u will end up nothing.
