Groundnut
by iliasahmed a on Jan 14, 2007 05:16 PM

Hi all

After reading the above article, I am bit amused and confused, reason read on...

we are eating groundnuts for ages and many people did research but did not disclose that, eating may invite cancer.

Even Gandhiji use to have a handful of groundnuts daily in his early morning diet.

Reality:My father in law who passed away on November 2005 was very fond of groundnuts and always there is small bag full of them in his kitchen.HE DIED OUT OF LIVER CANCER,it was deteced three months before his death and we were helpless in saving him.

Regarding Olive oil and its benifit
by ruby on Jan 11, 2007 09:13 PM

Dear rediff users,
Please dont follow or refer articles related to health and nutition on this website; I dont understand where people get all this information from.Olives are fruits non-indigenous of India. For centuries we indians have been eating and still eating food grown on Indian soil and most of us lead a normal life. There is no relation between cancer and olive oil.Olive oil is known for zero cholesterol. That's all!Is is a very expensive oil as it has to be exported and therefore a common man cannot afford it.In india we have a climate that favours the growth of a variety of good crops, fruits , vegetables etc. Lets try to reap 100% benefit from them. And please dont follow articles that discourage non vegeterianism.Include all types of food moderately in your diet and lead a healthy and happy life.

Regarding Olive oil and its benifit

Sir, its good to know that olive oil is healthy for human being. But saying groundnut is injurious to helth since it causes cancer to human being is some what not digetable. May be some fungus in ground nut may some problem. that can be treated or wahed throughly. Few days ago i gone through an article in BBC Hindi Service website where according to Britsh sciencetist the Groundnut and black grapes are good for anti aging ang anti wrinkle. My opinion is that this are finding which are not conclusive. May be this is ploy to lure to sale there produc to third world or so called developing nation like India. But we indian are not at the stage of brain less than developed country

Just another commercial motivated scientific report
by Ram on Jan 11, 2007 04:29 PM

Why always these scientific reports back crop products of europe, or america or australia etc.

Comon we know there will not be enough nutritional reports on sunflower seed oil, or cotton-seed oil, or coconut oil, or rice-bran or peanut oil etc

They want to promote their crops. For that it should be preceeded by two or three scientific reports. We know these trade games.

By the way, India is not a country which is naturally prone to Cancer anyway. Even if it is, we have enough anti-oxidants in tealeaves or turmeric or greens or herbals etc.

No Olives or its oil plz. They are expensive and a defintely a commodity of urban life in India.

India, shud stick to its soil's products only.
Make sense for its economy and health.

All the above reflects my opinions purely.
