I request you to visit www.valueresearchonline. com (most trusted site) and www.mutualfundsindia.com Being a new person to mutual fund the initial visit to website may probable tough for you, but start surfing here and there and you will find some clues. General Guidance: The equity market investment gives you higher return but should be considered only if you have risk appettite and you are a long term investor. in fact you must invest part of your investment in to good equity schemes mutual fund of Fr. Templeton, Reliance, DSP Merril Lynch, Pru. ICICI, HDFC etc.
You should think for safe investments too. You can prefer provident fund for that.
Finally, for investment, money is secondary matter. You are required to have committment to your investment and your future goal. Even a small amount like Rs. 1,000/- only per month will help you to build a very good amount on longer run. You may talk to me if you need any help. (094265 16073 : Ahmedabad) From your city you may find out an individual advisor (strictly not any banker). Once you find him out, I will guide you on how to test his integrity towards his investor (YOU).

You should not TIME the market / fund. You can enter anytime, whenever you feel comfortable.
You may invest in Sundaram BNP Paribas Select Midcap - Growth scheme which is performing very well.

The term is used to denote the market capitalisation of a share based on the volume of transaction of that particular share in the market. Mid caps are shares with relatively less transaction volume but still actively traded in the market. If you are not a shrewed investor you can't time the market and it is best to go in through a Systemic Investment Plan.
