only available solution
by nataraja bachelor on Jan 09, 2008 10:13 AM

perhaps the most plausible solution for this problem is to teach youngsters of both sexes to exercise self-control at the most.parents should teach their children to behave in a decent manner towards others, and more important, they should act as a model for their child

It is not that it "happens" only there. Thats the place where the women are more empowered and hence you hear about it only there.

Think a little bit about it.

sexual harassment is a natural activity
by nitin tyagi on Dec 20, 2007 06:04 PM

exactly as a lot of people suggest that it is not necessary for a girl to provoke interst it is infact the instinct of the male or even the female to try and make an advance towards the other. the ways and intensity differ. somepeople are polite and there advance is friendly and some are aggressive to the extent of discomfort. Rape is an extreme case where the person comiting rape can never be considered mentally balanced and should be banned from the society. in no way a woman is ever ready to provoke anybody to the point of rape and it is the imbalance in the mind of person comitting this henious crime that leads to it.
coming back to harassment, even if we talk about provokative dressing then is it not obvious that a girl or a boy dress in a flashy way to grab attention ,or to impress or to look good atleast. thus here the way of appreciation varies from a polite gesture to a catcall or a whistle or a nasty comment this all may depend upon the education and background of the individual.
i come from a city called meerut, and studying in meerut college i can distinctly recall the behaviour of various boys and girls and probably can also decifer between what can be termed as harassment and harmless flirting, to quite a degree of accuracy.

Double Standards every where in India.....
by Keen Khan on Dec 20, 2007 05:35 PM  | Hide replies

Although it is shame ful article for us to read, I must say these all are the ingredients of Liberal Culture (Western) of which we also have so called DEMOCRACY. As written in the Sydney Sheldon's book on Corporate Amerca, the worst place for Women is corporate world where is women is exploited to unbelievable levels and all in the name of upliftment or liberation of Women in America. I am sure some of you would have read the book and if not still may believe into findings of world renowned author. However like in other western countries, if any group tries to suggest or implements internally any so-caled strict measure to avoid their women folks from getting exploited/harrased/used, then all the educated urban people (hindus & modi lovers) will bark on top of their voice to criticise those people and their faith. If you need proof, follow the replies on my message from those modi-lovers. However it is good point to instrospect some of our older cultures, which ofcourse is made up from 1000's years of experience and ofcourse is strict. Hindus culture like Muslim culture also defines women role in society to be that of supporting her man. But the western looking, free hindus will call it oppersion/abuse of women by the 1400 yr old faith. Ofcourse there are black sheeps in every group, those 4-wives, wife beaters etc. Media always captures such news (Fatwa on Imrana, Sania), as it gets high TRPs, neglecting millions of other women. In Ind women is raped every 27 secs, wht abt th

I don't know how you can say western culture has anything to do with it. Or Democracy for that matter. Where in western culture or democracy does it say that you can sexually harass women?
The reason there is sexual harassment is because Indian men and women are sex starved. These sexual frustrations get the better of them and sometimes it results in rape. You cannot deny someone the basic neccessities of a happy life like food, water, shelter, sex, etc and expect them to be happy. In olden times indians used to be happy because they used to have more sex. Then the british came and imposed the victorian morals on us. Thus, we still follow primitive english values of sexual depravation and modesty and censorship. While the western world has got rid of its chains of sexual oppression. We have gladly embraced it and are oblivious to it.

So have more sex, and be happy. But use condoms please!

sexual harassment
by syed ilyas on Dec 20, 2007 05:24 PM

The incidents of sexual harassment in schools, colleges and work places are increasing tremendously especially due to fast few years. There are many factors responsible, besides the human depravity. Those days are gone when only minor flirts were indulged, now people are more direct and crude. One of the important causes could be over-liberal attitude encouraged by TV programmes where hardly anything is left to imaginations; frequent malfunctioning(!) of dresses by models on the ramp, increasing imagination of choreographers in film songs and open discussion about sex in media. Every thing goes in the name of fashion which is becoming bolder and open. Did any one ever say that the idols of Khajuraho and Konark were vulgar? When human body is depicted in different forms of art, people accept it but the problem id about vulgar descriptions. Some time college going girls and working females also become somewhat less reserved which is misconstrued by boys/men. This tendency needs too be checked and even curbed. But this will be possible when it becomes a social concern not a police concern alone. Let all segments of society engage in this important task of cleansing the society from such incidents.

Sexual harassment in colleges: Your responses!

In a city like Bangalore it has become common. We can find girls exposing himself to get mens attention and even smoking in the public, then there is no need to such a question. Most offen harassment is only the girls who are acting over smart. - Tiger Amaresh

Yes, cigarettes should only be sold to men. Make it illegal for women to smoke. How dare they! They are inviting harassment by smoking, it is soo obvious!

Gals who are neatly dress up in salwar kameej
are also victimised for eve teasing & sexual harassment rather than dressing skimpily. Beauty always lye in the beholder of eyes.
