Sir, After retirement from Central Govt. service viz. Min. of Water Resources, RD & GR, I was engaged as Consultant on a consolidated salary of Rs. 35000 per month, the Ministry deduct 10% of the above amount as Professional Services Tax. Thereafter for computing Income Tax, they take into account the gross salary i.e. 35000 instead of net amount viz. 31500 which was paid to me on month to month basis. Is it not double taxation? Kindly clarify and oblige.

Post retirement I am on board of few companies & also working as advisor to two company from whom I get sitting fee for attending meeting & advisory fee per month for my professional advise given in individual capacity. Am I supposed to pay service tax as individual,if I am not getting such credit from firm whome I am advisor. The firm pays service tax on service being provided by them.

Dear Ashok,
Yes you are required to pay service tax and can also charge the same to the firm. Any firm will not object in paying you service tax as they get exemption to the extent they pay to you. For for firm it doesnt hardly matters if they pay to govt. or to you and further you pay to govt. Better charge ST and you pay your ST to govt.
I am a pensioner and now a consultant of a private company. How do I account the remuneration from consultancy for Income tax purpose. Your valuable advice is highly appreciated.
