Nutritional superiority of breast milk
by Vipin Chandran on Aug 05, 2007 09:47 PM

Modern science and technology has not been able to produce a better food for young infants than mother%u2019s milk.
Breastfeeding is the best way to satisfy the nutritional and psychological needs of the baby.
The exceptional nutritional quality of human milk has been recognised for a long time. Mother%u2019s milk is designed for easy digestion and assimilation. Protein in mother%u2019s milk is in a more soluble form which is easily digested and absorbed by the baby. Same is the case with regard to fat and calcium in human milk which are also easily absorbable. The milk sugar %u2013 lactose in mother%u2019s milk provides ready energy. In addition, a part of it is converted into lactic acid in the intestines which destroys harmful bacteria present there and helps in absorption of calcium and other minerals. The amount of vitamins such as thiamine, vitamin A and vitamin C found in mother%u2019s milk depends on the diet of the mother. Under normal conditions, breast milk provides reasonable amounts of these vitamins.
The human milk has inherent anti-infective properties which no other milk has. This protective function of human milk is particularly important in developing countries where there is much exposure to infection. Some of the advantages of breastfeeding are :
%uF020Breast milk is the best natural food for babies.
%uF020Breast milk is always clean.
%uF020Breast milk protects the baby from diseases.
%uF020Breast milk makes the child more intelligent.

dangers of artificial feeding
by Rahul Jain on Aug 03, 2007 06:44 PM  | Hide replies

top feed like cows milk, formula milk is dangerous for the baby. it has no immunoglobulins and the baby does not get any immunity. formula fed infants have lower iq, tend to be more obese and more likely to develop diarrhea, pneumonia and diabetes later in life. food allergies are also commoner in formula fed infants. wait it does not end here, the mother also benefits by breast feeding. breast feeding mothers have less chances of fractures, lethal cancers such as breast cancer , ovarian and uterine cancers. breast feeding mothers also have better chances of losing excess fat gained during pregnancy. these are facts and not fiction. please open the WHO website and confirm
for yourself. dr rahul jain, kolkata

at any age mothers milk is good for baby. at eighteen months the child will have teeth, best to give expressed breast milk. your chances of having weak bones and several deadly cancers will also be reduced. your child will also have a sharper brain because of the phospholipids present in breast milk which are absent in formula milk

At 18 months the baby should be on light meals such as boiiled and pureed vegetable (no salt or sugar to be added, having a flow of milk even after the baby stops suckling is no harm. it will eventually stop.
