And higher education??????
by vidya vyas on May 01, 2007 07:35 PM

Well does that mean there will be no competitive exams for entrance to higher education either? And anyways with this kind of a system coming up, children won't be competent to face any competitive exams. Why do we always come up with interim reliefs and not a long term solution?

Board Exams

Doing away with Board Exams for Class X may apparently seem to be welcome proposal, but it ulimately means shirking of responsibility by the Board and delegating the authority to schools. It also means, increased level of the already prevalent discrimination on the basis of kind of school a student is attending. Passing 10th Class from a Govt. school or a lowly ranked public school would put the students in a very disadvantageous postion as copmpared to the students of top public schools, once the4 Board exams are done away with.
One thing great about the Board Examinations, is that the Board is a great equilizer. Board issues same certificate on the basis of performance and merit of the individual students irrespoective of the school from which they belong. That is why for proper evaluation of merit, some Boards in the country take examinations at 5th Class and 8th Class level also.
If one CBSE cannot take up workloadd, it can be divided into ten Boards, with one Baoard for each District or Sub-District, depending upon the number of student. To bring about parity, only performance level of the student should be indicated on the marksheets and certificates; the names of schools be ommited.

Instead of, therefore, doing away with Board examinations for Class X, more Board exams may be conducted for various classes so that only merit of the students is taken into account and discrimination on the basis of schools goes away. If properly implemented, this would also solve to some extent the clamour for admissions in elite schools even at Nursery level.

No more Board Exams

India's education system is one of the best in the world. You get to know this when you come across people from same field but studied in different education systems.

There were board exams for VII th earlier (which is now abolised), we think that it is better done so. I feel doing away with the board exam for Xth too will be a good move. When a ward passess out, say at the age of 15 or 16, he/she is too young to decide which way to continue. Teachers, parents/guardians push them in some direction (say.. to take up subjects according to percentage obtained) which many later on realise as not a field of their actual interest.

Instead, if the ward is let to opt subjects of his/her liking in XIth and XIIth irrespective of grades and if there is an open choice to switch to a field of self interest in further studies, I feel it would be more appropriate.

No more board exams

These are really radical proposals in Indian context. I believe there will be lot of resistance to this from vested stakeholders such as tuition providers (which includes large number of in service teachers who practically exploit students). Keeping this aside I think this is a serious issue worth debating.

There is no doubt that exam orientation of learning in secondary and higher secondary schools robs children of their childhood. Supporters of present system may argue that because of tough examinations our children have become smarter and today provide base for competitive advantage to country particularly in technological fields. But I would argue that exams have become high pressure because of the under supply of good quality and variety of post school higher education in India. Unless we address this issue making school exams lighter will not achieve anything as students will still remain exam oriented to compete for admissions in few good institutes.

excellent decision as there is no need for two school final exams. It can a lot of national resources both in terms physical and monetary. But authorities shd. see that the quality of secondary education doesnotcome while introducing this, for obvious reasons.

Abolishing with Board Exams
by Nitin Mansing Patil on Apr 23, 2007 05:31 PM

I this happens I will be extremly happy for my daughter who is stuck up with her inability to pass MATHS papers. She has been extremly good in languages but just can manage with MATHS.

Today by cultural standards not fit to be a worthy individual falling in category of illitrate.

This will be trendsetting decission giving opportunity unfortunate students unable to persue further education.

Some body has said about poor students. Our system is not thinking of each and every citizen in whoes name taxes are collected and where are they going.

I am waiting for this miracle to happen early.

Good Change
by bagavantharao venkatasubramanian on Apr 23, 2007 05:00 PM

Each and every student when they think of Exams they are getting a fear called Exam Phobia in which out of stress students are become nervous as a result even a good scorer also gets very low marks in the Public Examination that is they are not confident on thier studies. This change will definitely reduce the students risk in committing suicide when they fail in Examinations. If this change is adapted students will have a choice in getting passed in all the examinations because this is very easy for them to pass. Psychologically the students will be more happy and relaxed when this type of examinations are adapted. The weaker students will definitely welcome this change. Only the school/institution should have proper infrastructure and facilities to make this possible. The students last time stress will be reduced a lot. The students will have a bright future. I wish that this should be implemented as early as possible in the next academic year. All the best my dear students.
