Foreign degrees alone not important
by sankaran on Oct 07, 2006 02:40 PM

I have seen couple of friends who have studied in UK but do not have the requisite knowledge and socialising skills that may reflect the quality the education they had.
Hence, foreign education alone will not help unless that is backed by a real value addition

Hello there,

I would say yes, myself earned a international degree from a moderate university at UK.It helps me to broaden my knowledge, international exposure and the most important is your confidence level.

The one thing i noticed from their education, they don't feed you but they make you to understand what your studying. Which is missed in our most of our university.

Today's job market is highly competetive and it's to the individual how they post themself and their talents with the employer.

Its's help you to certain extent but you need to
asserstive in using skills to win the race.

regards
raghu

Having their children study abroad, has always been a dream come true for many educated parents. It also gives them a great sense of pride when they come back with aspirations and dreams to take on what has been waiting for them for a long time.

Of course there is another group that does'nt plan on coming back, either due to their rising fortunes and need in the foreign countries open to migration.

Succesful candidates who have opted to come back are driven into the mainstream corporate india, which(corporate india(services)) is into various activities like increasing the standard of living of millions of indians, education sector, sales and marketing etc.

Being educated from foreign universities gives them a vision that is usually not attainable in traditional family driven enterprises that forms the base of indian economy(agriculture, manufacturing, education, banking etc).

The purpose of foreign degrees, as far as I have seen to not to compete directly with Indian based degrees, in terms of their target market.

ONLY SELECT DEGREES
by SUPRIYO CHAUDHURI on Oct 01, 2006 06:19 PM  | Hide replies

From my three decades of corporate experience and four years of academic I have found only select degrees endow a person with good jobs/social prestige. About MBAs only degrees from universities like Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, London, INSEAD have value in this country. The IIMs are almost at par with them if not slightly higher. I do not think the world rates our IITs any lower than the best technological institutions in the world. Only in Medicine FRCSs & MRCPs carry more weight than Indian medical post graduate degrees.

I agree with the comment on exposure to an international lifestyle. Having people from six countries on the same floor does open up your mind. If someone does have the opportunity to study outside India, they should most certainly take it. The innovation, the vibrant research, the invitation to dare to differ ... you don't get that in India.

its about ability rather than a foreign degree.
by avsnprasad on Sep 30, 2006 04:43 PM

i belive its all about your ability rather than thinking about a foreign degree. i dont see any reason why indian degrees are not helpful nor are equivalent to their foreign counter part degrees yes i do agree that the industrial interaction is very less for the indian universities when compared to a foreign universities that need to be increased.
