Practically does it happen?
by Madhav Gole on Mar 05, 2007 10:58 AM  | Hide replies

In bigger corporate companies one shall be rewarded as per the yearly performance appraisal, but in smaller firms bosses tend to avoid / postpone salary increase forget the appointment for salary raise. One has to keep the new appointment letter in hand and then ask the boss to match it if he agrees , well or resign from the current organisation and join the new one.

I agree with you Madhav. example is myself i have discussed many times for my appraisal. I n my case the company's vice president has rated me as Exceeds Expectation but my boss is not ready to accept that. So searching for a job. I request everybody dont try the above said method to get salary hike.99.99% it wont work

Not Practical

Very easy to say but very difficult in practical life. The best way is First try to get other offer letter then go to boss. If you worth then you will be hiked if not then goodbye.

practically possible and imposible
by Arora Kumar Surender on Jan 19, 2007 04:11 PM  | Hide replies

the article is in old fashion, just bulleting the sales data / achievements will not serve the purpose. I think we must show our requirements by showing the inflation data, company's overall growth and comparing last year's increment and if possible showing some instances of getting higher increaments for non-performers and less increaments for performers. Also do not forget to start with thanks for previous year's cooperation (either in terms of increament or otherwise). At last (looking into the mood), you can say "SIR WE HAVE LISTEN AND WORKED FOR YOU FOR 364 DAYS AND SIR, I HAVE KEPT ONLY ONE DAY FOR ME I.E. THE DAY OF WRITTING APPRAISAL - SIR, YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK FOR ME".

Not a very practical approach
by sonali dey on Jan 19, 2007 03:45 PM  | Hide replies

I think its not a very practicle approach, although it is a very polite and professional way of approaching a boss. Since most of the corporates have a slab for each designation, it may not be very practical to expect something beyond the given range. The employee can internally investigate and compare his bonus/increment with other colleagues. If he thinks that he has got less bonus/increment, he can approach his boss and figure out what went wrong, by using some of the steps mentioned here.
