Have a good focus on what you want

IIM...yes the brand does matter and it takes a lot of effort in getting up there as well as coming out of there after 2 years. But I was less fortunate since I didn't get through CAT in 2003..eventually I had to settle for a B-school which is outside top 15...But I have no regrets as I was associated with a leading Investment bank for some time and now I am a consultant with a leading software & services org..The basic thing you have to look for in a B-school is the infrastructure, the quality of the faculty, the industry interaction and ofcourse the placements.if you are unable to get thru to IIMs,try any other B-school in top10/top15...if you don't get thru, then dont worry, try to get a good job as per your existing qualifications and prepare well for the next year..it always helps working before doing a management course.

why IIM`s
by anil kumar on Oct 04, 2006 04:06 PM

Well, i`ve done my M.B.A.from Australia, and simply i recieved educational bank loan from SBI and than moved to The University of queensland at Australia.
there i got a chance to interact with international students that includes group tasks and assignments with CEO`s of esteemed companies of the world including Adi,Coke and others. now i am getting a package of 15.0 lac/annum. and i don`t think its bad start. so my suggestion is- don`t look around for Indian M.B.A.that includes IIM`s. go to the bank, collect money from there, get the visa for good uni in the globe.

beyond IIM..
by Jovlin on Oct 04, 2006 03:10 PM

Dear friend,
Your ambition to get an IIM degree is quite good. In fact you set a finite goal for your higher education. But I think you are fearful to think beyond IIM. Its quite natural at your level. But remember, there are several other prestigious institutions in India which are providing quality management education. Getting an IIM degree itself is something admirable and you will also get the IIM tag for lifetime. But many successful professionals in the corporate world are non IIMs. So becoming successful in the corporate world not requires an IIM degree, but many other qualitative features that you must be able to develop during your career. So feel confident to think beyond IIM....
All the Best

IIMs are NOT the only good institutes
by Srinivasan on Oct 04, 2006 02:45 PM

There are also other institution of excellece apart from the IIMs and a degree from them s certainly prestigious and adds value to your CV. They are XLRI, IIFT, MDI Gurgaon, SP Jain, XIM Bhubaneshwar, TA Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Goa Institute of Management (GIM), FMS to name a few !! These institutes are known for their course delivery and they also have good placements.

Don't die for CAT
by vikki on Oct 04, 2006 01:14 PM

In this competetive world, If an ordinary MBA has attitude, skill he can earn same salary or even above IIMs. See, I am an MBA from delhi. My instt is atonomous, even then Now I am an NRI in a span of 1 year. So make good choice of specialisation depending on your personality & interest. NEVER compromice your interest & specialisation for money...AND TRY HARD TO HONE YOUR TALENT. SUCCESS WILL B YOURS......DARE TO THINK BEYOND IIMs
