How many hours I have to sleep?
by Murugan R on Feb 12, 2007 05:32 PM

Hi Brinda,
I'm working in MNC and I'm bit overweight so I joined a gym. I'm going 2 times per week now but soon I will try to keep up with 3 times a week. But my work is demanding and I can't get enough sleep. At present I'm sleeping 5hrs a day is it enough. I heard that when you do workout you need atleast 8 hrs sleep.

From the weight gain it really seems that you might have worked hard on your exercise regimen, but structure or fitness or so as to say even health isn't determined by your weight. IF you've increased muscle mass through exercises and proper diet i presume u've good reason to rejoice , but if u've been light on exercises and indisciplined as to your diet the weight gain might just be unhealthy.

Presuming you're from the former category , do take care to design a workout on all muscle groups (opposiing and complenting )of your body, for eg . if you work your abs out do take care you work on the back muscles like lattismus dorsi or muscles surrounding the pelvic region, if you work on the quadriceps do take care to work out the hamstrings and calf muscles.Stretch and warm up all parts before you start training weights or even cardio to avoid all kinds of injuries.
This will ensure u've balanced muscular development , over the years we tend to overuse certain muscles , while other muscle groups might go unattended , thus working out blindly without paying attention to the muscular balance and symmetry principle you might actually harm yourself, try avoiding that.
Try resting properly after each day's workout , that is the time your actual muscular development occurs , try higher weights lesser reps, drink lots of water like crazy , make protein consumption atleast twice your weight in grams (if your 70 kg then 70 gms X 2 = 140 gms ) each day, eat lots of green veggie and fr
