The right to a 'good' school

Well,,I do agree with the writer on some points like parents wanting the best for the child and all that. But the hard facts are
(a) Peer Pressure: This forces the parents to send their kids to schools which have a "reputation" as a good school. It is also a status symbol to be flaunted. Many parents dont really care what the school is teaching as long as it is a socially acceptable school.
(b) Teaching and Monitoring at Home: Once a child goes to school, most parents dont really bother whether their child has understood the subject or not as long as the child scores. This has led to a generation of children who score high marks but are not "educated" in the true sense of the word. Parents dont have the time to monitor and groom their kids as work pressures dont allow it...
There are many other factors but enumerating them here would make it as long as the article.
I too am from the writers school...I left it about 20 years back and I know what she is talking about.. It was a good school..maybe still is, but even my kids dont go there any longer as the earlier balance has been skewed badly by the management.
