basavaraj M said, on April 11, 2010 at 1:42 pm Guys if you are genuinely foodie, go to cubbonpet 31st cross, ask for chikkann hotel and try the dosas their you will feel that the dosas available their are the best in my opinion. But you should be between 6am and 10am because later than that you may not get dosas to taste. Also try dosas at vidyarthi bhavan, gandhi bazaar, udupi krishna bhavan, at balepet behind majestic theatre. Sorry you may not get any around these places. If you are at any time travelling to mysore try dosas at mylari hotel at nazarbad, very close to busstand, I am sure you will relish the taste.
Krishna, I really want to thank you for this mouth watering review. I have been to CTR couple of times when I used to work in that part of the city and I just can't agree more with what you have said. Haven't got a chance to visit Vidyarthi Bhawan yet, have heard about it a lot. I read this at about 1 in the night and felt like running to CTR and paying all I could afford to get that aroma of that perfectly roasted butter masala dosa!!
Hey Krish, that was a good article. We live in Chennai and get very rare chances to eat such yummy dosas, as tasty as Bangalore. How come you missed New Krishna Bhavan in Malleswaram? Also, there was a small Dosa Camp in 2nd Main Road, 8th Block, Jayanagar which served tasty dosas with a variety of chutneys-no Sambar!!!We are not aware if this still exists-not been that side for ages!!

NKB is not as good as the others in my view. Never liked Dosa camps. For MD only these four! Even MTR does not qualify.
You are bang on target on all the hotels you have mentioned for great masala dosas. However, there are a couple of other places in Bangalore which serves the same, if not better, quality dosas. One is Samrat/Chalukya on race course road. The same taste since the last so many years i have been eating there. Now they have a branch at Sheshadripura.
The next in line is MTR. How can you forget MTR? The quality might have come down slightly, you may have to wait there endlessly, other people might be standing next to you praying that you will eat fast and they get a place, but the dose here is heaven. With the chutney and subtly flavoured palya, it is pure ambrosia.
Since you have already spoken about Janardhana, no point in talking about Udupi Krishna Bhavan. They are from the same management. Just a bit of trivia here, G P Rajaratnam, the great kannada poet, i have read somewhere used to have two butter masale doses here together!!!
Another place where one can get excellent Doas is Upahara Darshini near Nettakallappa circle. There is no sitting place and one has to stand in the foot path and eat. Anothere new entrant is Davangere beene masale here the curry will be only Potato and generous dose of Butter. Yes never eat dosa with sambhar and also with fork and knife. Holidays. Jantha - Wednesday. Upahara darshini - Wednesday. Vidyarthi bhavan - Friday.
Vidyarthi bhavan has sketches of many imp personalities of Karnataka sketched by one of the employees. If you are late and there is no chance of getting a seat order a parcel it will come fast.Drive your vehicle to a nearby place and finish your Dosa
