Toshiba A-80
by taken for ride on Jul 16, 2006 08:28 AM

Based on recommendation and comparison done be expert in leading newspaper in Dec. 05, I went to Toshiba A-80 (budget model)-Intel celeron, 256 RAM, 40GB HDD, DVD-ROM. My experience has been bad. Two times the machine broke down and I had to replace, DVD-ROM, Hard Disk and other parts. Even now it is not working well. Their gurantee service is poor. Please no Toshiba.

T43 is the best, but..
by cruxer on Jun 11, 2006 10:13 PM

Got a T43 for last 6+ months now, and no complaints as such..

But for a mobility laptop, consider this important point, in addition to weight & battery: The positioning of the battery and its effects of having the laptop on your lap (since you will be keeping it on your lap time to time for usage).

But then, no laptop is perfect. Atleast, the one which has a battery position towards the screen end would be better than the one which has it towards u (i hope you get what i'm trying to say ;) ..

Hi All!
I currently own a Sony Vaio T1XP/L UltraPortable notebook. The first thing that caught my eye about this beauty was it\'s size and weight(10.6\" screen n 1.38KG) Though Its not a very powerful machine but Its design has to be commended.Sony has managed to pack Size, weight,Aesthecity and most of all\'Longest battery life\' i\'ve come across{6.5Hours}.I bought for around 1200£ which was still a bargain when it was retailing for 1800£ in the Uk Market.Ive been using it for an year now and with its upgraded versions out,I found it serving my basic needs.Only bad point wud be the price for some people.Otherwise,Its a Great Buy !!

Try IBM-Lenovo Think Pad
by Aditya on Jun 08, 2006 01:35 PM

Hi

I been using IBM R50e 1834LQ3 since 1 year. It's has most handsome features according to me.

The best part is the keypad light. This feature allows u to work even when there is no light in the room. That's really handy and u will not find it in any laptop.

This laptop has just the trackpoint with no touch pad. I found trackpoint ball to be more handy and easy to use than touch pad.

Battery life is pretty decent. u can easily watch a 3 hr movie. (if copied to local hard disk)

The keypad is pretty close to the standard key pad and trust me u will find it easy to work than other key pad. Becoz if u r used to desktop keypad then u will find this one close to it. HP and Compaq have their own signs and u have to first trace which key is where!!!

Yes the speakers r where this machine loses to the Dell's and Compaq's.

It's 2.7Kg so pretty lite on that front!

Never buy Gateway Laptop
by Ricky on Jun 08, 2006 10:44 AM

Just to let you know - never buy a gateway laptop. Its build is pathetic and they have a very bad customer service & support center. The various complaint forums online are the proof. I own a Gateway 400VTX model purchased from USA and now it refuses to boot up except maybe once a week. If it boots, it gets very hot within 10-15 minutes and just dies on me. The service people were unhelpful and spare parts are not available in Nehru Place and around Delhi or India.
Never, Ever buy a Gateway Laptop. Period.

IBM Think PAD R51
by sameer gokhale on Jun 08, 2006 10:32 AM

I would recommend the IBM R51 Think Pad for personal use which i purchased 6 months ago.
Extremely user friendly and has all the utilities one can ask for.
The keys are also of the same size as the regular key board. It is reasonalbly priced, light weight and also withstands rough use (just in case)
