Bonus 10% is Cut now -Post office Monthly Income savings - MIS
by VM on Sep 13, 2006 05:12 PM

POMIS - Post office monthly income savings ...

From 10% Intersert+10% Bonus(at maturity time) it was made 9%+10% Bonus(at maturity time) till 2002.

After 2002 Fin.Year this was reduced to
8% + Nil Bonus%( at Maturity time)

Quite a number of letters to Editorial to newspapers
have been represented to continue the 10% BONUs(at maturity time) to the Government. All had gone to deaf years!!.

If the Govt.Of India revives this 10% Bonus it would be nice or They can bring some 1 Yr,2 Yr,3 Yr schemes with some Bonus is also welcoming one.

Today the VRS(voluntry retirement scheme)is there in many companies/banks.The Govt.of India can do something for VRS people and they can be also be graded under the Sr.Citizen society. Special age consideration (the age for VRS is above 40Yrs) term them as VRS Citizens.( give them an Identity Card)

Unless such Innovative schemes comes, in the present scenario, with the rate of interest in Banks for FD is just ( 5% and 6% for 1Yr)

Not Charming

For Low income group unless a min of 10% Interset in FD's and Bonus in POMIS is not there is no charm to discuss on these

What rediff gains and the sharers benefit by this

Rediff.com can you answer Pl.

The Indian MF market is equally promising. You can venture in there. But if you want to safely keep your savings, you can look for NRE FD. Citi bank provides good rates on such deposits. The current rate on USD FCNR deposit was at 5.4% when I checked. Please reconfirm rates fo yourself.

Harris, this would need another round of interviews with bankers and more research. In fact this in itself would form the subject for another article. Watch this space.... This does mean that I dont know the answer as of now.

The Indian stock market is booming and is a good place to invest currently. You could also invest in Mutual funds. Stock investment is another good option for which you need a demat account in India. You can open a demat account with Citibank; they have good NRI service in Gulf.

Yes you can. In fact as you observe, the banks themselves have kept as many slabs as possible. For withdrawing cash in between the slabs, you get the interest as is applicable.
