Maintenance charges paid to Society
by mahesh veezhinathan on Aug 04, 2013 02:29 PM

Can someone please share information on this question asked already?

What about the maintenance charges which we are paying as society charges? Can we claim this in HRA?

It would be very helpful to know the answer to this question. This is a significant charge these days - in many societies, the monthly maintenance charge itself is several 1000s of Rupees.

If this is not included in the rent and I as a tenant pay it separately to the society, can I deduct this?

On the other hand, if I include it in the rent agreement (in the future), and pay it to my landlord, can he deduct this as expense from his rental income?

by keshav khandavilli acharyulu on Dec 15, 2009 08:03 PM

I am working about 40 km away from Mysore and doing up and down to mysore every day. But my family resides in Mysore in a rented house for the sake of medical facilities and childern,s education. I declared to my employer that my family will continue to stay in Mysore for the above said reasons and requested for permission to avail medical facilities at Mysore. They have been permitted. Can I claim Tax exemption on HRA by producing rent receipt of Mysore.

HRA Calculation
by someswar on Jul 20, 2009 02:19 PM

If the home is regsistered in Husband and Wife name (both) , and only Husband is earning.
In the HRA component of the salary of husband , would half of the portion needs to go to wife . In other words , for husband , half of the HRA amount would not be considered for tax .
