It is not government's job to police salaried people. Not taxing Leave expenses is good. But specifying this is Ok, that is not OK is policing. How can auto fare which has no receipt not be given LTA benefit, when it too is a Leave expense just like airfare or train fare.

Why travel abroad is not covered? Why train IIAC? Why not any mode of transport actual proved by actual receipt on return. Several cases the Flt tkt is booked and cancelled and LTA obtained tax free. This makes those who travel short distance by train by II or III tier AC and pay up taxes for the uncovered amount look fools. Why such simple ways of checking the genuine is overlooked. Majority escape and the sincere ones bleed.

Query on LTA
by Vinod Achrekar on Jul 19, 2006 04:40 PM

Hello Madam,

I am planning to go to kerala on honeymoon with my wife. I will go via train to cochin and return back. My eligibilty of LTA is Rs.10000. While return travel by train for both would cost Rs.7000. I would be hiring the car for local sight seeing which would cost Rs. 5000. Would i be eligible for such cost return through LTA? Further would i be eligible for Rs. 10000 or Rs. 12000?

Kindly reply.
Regards
Vinod
