The best way is to start doing your work the moment you enter office premises. This will not allow your mind to deviate from your main tasks.Once, you finished all your priority based tasks, you may allow distracted activities to enter in between your other works. The important question is 'out of 8 normal working hours' how many hours or minutes your mind is taking the deviation and to determine it - you need to make constant notes daily. The more the time going in distraction the more the need for you to avoid distraction and the less the time in distraction the lesser efforts you need to cut that distractions. Sometimes, distractions infact - enhances your work performance...a sweet call from sobody you love...a good news, a healthy discussion....etc, etc acts as tonics of energy at work. finally, don't say goodbye to distractions but take effective steps to curb those unnecessaries.
we are trying to stay focused in our work but certain ppl and situations dont allow us to do that so in betn we get tensed and then start reading emails or using our mobiles to get destressed because such situations are very annoying as well as unavoidable.

i dont think whatever check list the author has come up with, these are all external things which he says we need to control. if u decide in ur mind to complete the days task then u dont need all these mechanical check list. Its upto u to decide..
I would sincerely and intensively feel the greatness of my luck for being on the job and the opportunities that my job gives to me for fulfilling the purpose of life by working innovatively and creatively.
There are some more things than Mobile Phones, Landline Phones and E Mails at your work place. Most Important thing is your collegues , subrdinates and Boss.If focus is work oriented and your personality reflects high professional attitude at work place there will be no distraction at work place. In every case you must be clear for purpose of the day.I felt that if we could plan properly with written documentation about our up coming activities, it helps us to avoid the distraction.
What is mentioned in the article is true for those who are adamant to browse between work. Now a days people in office go off track when their mails are down. This syndorme has to wiped out. If you practice few things and concentrate on work nothing can distract you.
Another distraction is when people turn up at your desk while you're in the middle of something. The best thing (for you) is to politely ask them to come back after 30 minutes (or whatever time you will take to complete what you have already started). Otherwise, you start one thing, someone asks you to do something else, the phone rings after sometime....and in the end, you haven't even completed ONE task properly.
Be polite, but FIRM. YOUR work first. OTHERS can wait!
May not work for everyone, but works damn well for me! :)
