You can get many antivirus programs . IF you want OS for linux, antivirus program . You can get from FTP of IIT-M . Which has all LINUX ( FEDORA , DEBAIN). You can make a bootable CD for browsing and FEDORA GUI is beautiful .No body like to have beautiful things (that doesn't work good). SWITCH TO LINUX. There are many linux web URL , for eg for chennai . Chennai LUG URL .

good piece of information. in addition to deleting temp.files, it is also necessary to see that disk c is not overloaded with archive files. to increase the speed, it may be needed pop up blocking.

Hmmm....nothing new that could be applied reading this article. The tips given here are expected to be known by any person using a compouter with a basic knowledge.

And... this is for Ramakrishna.

You can get rid of spyware by using some freeware programs like spybot search&destroy, spyware blaster, adaware etc. The best thing is to be careful and make yourself sure when you install some new program on to your comp.

coz spyware and other malware is generally bundled with some commonly used applications. Make sure you download it froma trusted site like www.download.com

Cheers,
Purush

The best thing to do

Make partitions of your hard disk , keep your data on the non-booting drives. and format the boot drive every 6 months (earlier if you install too many freewares) and reinstall windows .

I think apart from cleaning temorary files, one shold also stop unnecesary services running on to the computer which are running in the background without your knowledge. These hidden processes can slow your system and also invite attackers to find vulnerabilities into your system.

So go to run and type services.msc in the dialog box to stop service that u do not want.

Also you can disable startup items from microsoft configuration utility by typing msconfig in the run window.

Install an antivirus software to protect from virues too. Follow these steps and see a change in your system.

1) get a good anti spyware (windows defender is free for now)

2) do not install programs from unknow sources after downloading them from internet.

To avoid spyware, DON\'T use Internet Explorer (use Firefox or Opera instead), and DON\'T use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express (use Thunderbird or something else).

In fact, avoid all Microsoft software. For office, try OpenOffice. Microsoft writes its software with scripting capabilities that supposedly make it easy for developers, but they have ZERO security. ActiveX is the single biggest threat to Windows users. It\'s how spyware gets installed on your computer without your knowledge.

Ideally, avoid Windows altogether: Linux is pretty user-friendly these days and it\'s free, and MacOS X is far friendlier than Windows, if you can afford an Apple computer.

Hi,
you could use spybot and adware for protecting your computer from spyware. These are free of charge and could be directly downloaded from the net. I cannot gurantee you that these are the best. but i advice them as they work good on my comp.

Regards,
Sai
