Fake it, you break it ...
by Bhaskar on May 26, 2006 08:39 PM

One lie adds to another & there's no end to it...But a HR guy / Recruiter doesn't lie the truth always if you say you were not working for last 1-2 months & were in the lookout of the best job in town. Recruters should look for genuiness & modesty in the candiate & not discourage them stating you don't have experience in a particular work / job profile /industry completely..If everyone wants experienced people at work what will the freshers & other intd people do ??? FAKE !!!

Anyway,At the end of the day : You get what you deserve !!!

Even employers fake
by sandeep on May 16, 2006 03:06 PM

I have many reasons to tell why people fake their Resumes. My friend who was BE-Mechanical got through campus interview with one of the mechanical companies even before result were out.
He worked there for a year but quality of work was not good. Then he decided to move to IT. and so he did some good courses and looked for job. But every employer asked for the exp. Also changing the industry was considered a bad thing. So he faked his Resume and got job.
Also big software companies keep their employees on bench for many months. Why do they tell that the quality of work will be good in their company?

Why not to tell the employers to recruit the people on attitude and ability and not just on Qualification and experience.?

Fake it or Break it
by Gokul Anand on May 12, 2006 11:15 PM

This article has been well written especially the part suggesting the do's and don'ts of resume building. I have seen in my past how many recuiter simply get away with all false promises to the candidates and promising them hefty sums of money as remuneration. This would ideally mean a lot to the honest candidate. In todays world of big rush from both the employers and candidates the consultants ( HR and hiring) are making ransome through huge marketing ways. Over a period of time this should subside else would be a bigger evil than piracy.

Hi,
I do support sunder's article. Part of the reason can be traced to some decision by the HR industry.

1. The scheme of refernces
2. Inadequate Interview screening

The scheme of references has the potential not to allow candidates who are genuine to be dismissed since most companies conduct walkins which are organized on the basis of references.

One of the problems in this process is the proliferation of HEAD HUNTERS who have special tie-ups with certain HR personell who hire such people.

This causes lots of genuine resumes to be rejected. One excuse given that people get too many resumes in a day. My answer would be that It is a responsibility for which HR professionals are paid. if they cannot do this what are they paid for ?

The ability to cross-check with previous employesr is also not fool proof. If one person leaves a company there are normally genuine reasons for it.

i.e. not enough salary
bad working realtionship

etc.

Hence checking references is not the ideal way since it is easy for the previous employer to provide bad feedback becuase of disgareements with the individual.

Therefore proper interviews are the best measure for an employee.

wht about employers themselves
by alok on May 05, 2006 10:31 AM

Quite relevant and interesting.................
but wht at employers end.........

lots and lots of named employers....do inhuman things to fire people or managers frame cases to shoo away internal competitors in growth ladder

Lots of big Big names are faking Job Profiles (mix of words)why cant they simply admit that the job is all about cutting grass....and not about making a marvellous garden........as well as Compensation packages (the CTC funda..they even almost account and addup for air you breath at office)......

do we have any weapons after ending up with them?..........

Fake is Fake at last

Hi Sunder,

Your views are true & I wished to add one more aspect of fabrication : the current salary drawn by the candidate. Candidates do not provide a right picture & later on complain that their current company makes payments in cash/ against voutchers etc.

Also some candidates go through a round of fake interview process, i.e. while the prospective recruiter is serious about his/her candidature, the candidate is just trying to test the waters;may be to get a salary bargain tool...

I think the time is come when we should be asking for attested resumes only even at the initial levels to qualify for further screens; at least some error may come down.

I am not so sure that attested resumes will serve the purpose of making sure the resumes are not fake. Just because it hardly takes any great effort to subvert any attestation process one can think of.

As things have become bad everywhere, there is no surety of anything. Everything is left to chance or the effectiveness of their internal processes.

If a person is not honest, nothing can be done. He / she will find a way to subvert. Equally to be blamed are the companies, who by their unethical practices (be it for generating business, certifying, collecting payments, paying taxes, etc), show to their employees that they do NOT practice what they preach. In such circumstances, its a matter of time for the standards to fall based on the need of the hour. When bigger crimes go unpunished (either because of compromises made, or because the person is not caught), many smaller ones are considered condoned.

So in reality, it flows from the ethical practices published and practiced by the top management and that demonstrative action will ensure that the employees know what the company stands for at all times.

That is why we find very few names in that league.
