no i dont think that parents shoud be given the authority to decide about their children being veggi coz its a persons own wish and feelings about the entire world and they should be given the authority to decide for themselves.

Should parents be allowed to make such decisions for their children?
by sheelan on Sep 16, 2005 02:25 PM

To me, parents should not make such decisions for their children. They should allow their children to take any food which are good for their health. And as far as vegetables are concerned, all vegetables are collected from plants. We know that every plants has life. In other words, they may not be like animals, but they have sense. So, if any one like to be kind, he/she should not eat anything except water. Even you can not drink cow milk because it will be the violation of "cows right". And what about the animals which used to eat other animals flesh for their existence? I think, nature keep the balance in its own way by creating man, animal and plants. We human being r only a part of the universal life cycle. So, be vegetarian/non-vegetarian as your wish, but don't impose it on others ...........

veg. or non. veg - good thought but not worth trying to get an answer
by Prashant on Sep 10, 2005 06:51 PM

Zelda,
I feel this question of yours is not really going to help you get any answer (if at all you are looking for one).
I am a vegetarian myself and I strongly believe in it. So if i were to give out my opinion (biased, of course!), I would say that your striving in trying to inculcate vegetarianism into your children is worth appreciation. Refraining your children from killing animals for us to eat, is an act worth all your difficulties. And even if they may take up to non-veg. in the future, they will surely give it second thought.

But as always, there are non-vegetarians who have various arguments like the "life-chain, eating plants is also killing, nutrition, bible does not say" and various such things, for which there aren't very strong answers to reply from the vegetaian point of view.

But for all I can say, vegetarianism saves the pain which animals undergo, and there are plant/fruit foods which are have all (and more) nutrition than any meat.

Girls, who are vegetarian should not marry with those who are not. If they do so, it will not be fair to convince their children to be vegetarian. They should first convince their husbands to be vegetarians and then expect their children to follow them.

Question: Is Zelda a real person?
The article seems to me to be too loaded to be a real person's views. Seems to be created to give rise to that age old debate again. Never had a conclusion, never will.
But it closely pictures the thought process of some vegetarians, which in my opinion is a lot of hypocrisy.
The arguments of plants being alive and feeling pain as well as the food chain and human teeth has been stated by many. Do vegetarians not study science in school (ha-ha)? But why do vegetarians keep conveniently overlooking them? Because it feels good to feel superior, right? I am not like those cruel non-vegetarians, I love animals etc.
And there's a bigger hypocrisy here with the "open mindedness" I am so open minded that I have separate pots and pans, I'll let my kids decide, but I'll do my best to feed them with propaganda and all that.
Which is so blatant that it makes the article unrealistic, I don't know if such a person really exists.
Don't know if this would get posted :)
