Just to give the stocks traded in NYSE 2,760,831,000, NASDAQ 2,093,704,000 yesterday (26.9.06). This is the case on every trading day. Out of this amount one can imagine the volume of option trading. This is liquidity. Why did Prof. J.K. Verma get the idea to make Rs. 2 lakhs as the basis for option trading, only he knows I believe? It appears he and his commission have themselves never done physical option trading, otherwise he would have not created such stupid restrictions that every option scrip has different number of shares in building an option. Let me give you a practical example: If I am holder of Mutual funds having a market value of Rs. 3 lakhs, inclusive of a profit Rs. 1 lakh. If I wish to keep my profit of 1 lakh I shall buy a Nifty put option. Now I have to put up, according to the present value and regulations, a sum of 6 lakhs and more to secure the 2+1 lakhs.
