Hot culinary spots in Bangalore
by Seenu Subbu on Jan 17, 2006 08:45 PM  | Hide replies

A Bangalorean in exile, I feel so home sick reading these articles. Much of what is written covers the new Bangalore. If you want to taste the best Idli/Vadas with the best chutney and the best South Indian filter coffee ever, please visit the "Brahmanara Phalahara Mandira" (Brahmins Breakfast place) located between Shankar Mutt Road and Bull Temple Road, behind the old Bangalore High School building. When I make a visit to Bangalore, my first stop from the airport typically is at this place.
There are several "SLV Bhavans" across Basavanagudi which make the most awesome Vadas. And then there is "Upahara Darshini", nothing more be said, that's located at the corner of Netkallappa Circle and DVG Road.
Oh God, what am I doing here?

Hemanth
The author has tried to cover atleast 50%of the food Joints
by Hemanth on Nov 25, 2005 05:46 PM

Hello All,
Lets agree that bangalore is known for its food joints and has got this uniques distinction of having the best types of dishes in limited areas. Example if Malleswaram has a Central Tiffin room for Dosas, Hallimane for North karnataka cuisine, Janata Hotel for Vada and Veena Stores for idly. Similarly as other members have pitched in for SLV, Vidyarthi Bhavan, Ramakrishna Ashram road and then the ever famous Sajjan rao Circle & MTR. Given the traffic of bangalore and the distance constraints we have to truly appreciate bangalore's versatality and distribution of the food joints. Obviously a person in Hebbal cannot travel all the way to ramkrishna ashram to relish the delicacy. Just be thankful that Bangalore is a wonderful place to live in and enjoy the food wherever we go.

Half baked food review...
by N. Ravi Shankar on Nov 25, 2005 11:37 AM  | Hide replies

The piece is both distorted as well as badly written. When you are talking about food in Bangalore, it doesn't suffice if you just talk about Tamil and Andhra food! There is a vast spread of Kannadiga cuisine (and old, landmark hotels of Bangalore which serve that with elan) which Bangalore is famous for, which the author is blissfully unaware of.

It doesn't yield to write a piece on Bangalore food without understanding the flavour of Bangalore!

Also, what disappointed me was, while Zunder quotes Tamil Poets in his article, he uses broken Kannada phrases for good measure! If Kannada activists see this, I wuld not blame them if this triggers a revolt. One needs to be sensitive to the local sentiment Mr. Zunder!

I am a fan of Get Ahead and this piece by Zunder was a big let down!

Regards,

N. Ravi Shankar

can you please keep regionalism and pro activism from atleast food joints. If you think the author has missed any. Then pitch in constructively by suggesting what should be added like others have done. Have you the so called never done wrong has written anything about bangalore?
Dont think so. So quit this negative energy of yours.
