my mantra of living alone
by shaswat boruah on Feb 25, 2006 03:55 PM  | Hide replies

I moved from my parental house to guwahati for joining my new job in 2002. Here are my mantras for living alone and happily:

Rule 1 : Try to live alone rather than sharing room with others. It looks to be bit expensive but you have other ways to minimize your cost.

Rule 2 : Try to have your own vehicle, it will save your time as well as it is cost effective.

Rule 3 : keep your vehicle perfect so that you need not spend huge amount of money on maintenance at one time.

Rule 4 : cook your own food. You save lot of money as well as get nutrious food of your own choice.

rule 5 : wash your clothe yourself.you can save money and life span of your clothes also.

Rule 6 : pay your bills regularly, let it be your house rent or mobile bill. it is good to pay dues at time rather than getting unwanted massages from others.

Rule 7 : Gain the confidence of local vendors, they won't mind to give you discount on purchases.

Rule 8 : avoid unwanted arguments.

Rule 9: don't keep penniless frens.

rule 10: Keep some good books and movies with you.

He is not a coward, but a very sensible guy who knows exactly what he is talking about. The suggestions are very precise and very helpful for somebody not able to find an excellent room-mate, as also the independent type of person who has his head firmly on the shoulders.

Living alone, difficulties in getting a decent apartment

It is a pleasent feeling to see yourself getting matured and handle
things that you might not have thought yourself capable of doing.
Moving from down south from a small town to a bussling city like
Bangalore was ina way world apart experience, moreso when you have
to cope with the demands of living alone. I realised how important it
is to know a common language to get connected to people. I think
Bachelor`s have the toughest time with searching for apartments,
especially when you have to livein a residential area with families
around. I think renting house to bachelor is still considered as a
taboo in India. I was surprised with the refusal for the only reason
that I was a bachelor, the replies I got was that since I was a not a
family man, they cannot trust me (I wonder what these same people`s
idea when marrying off their daughters to Bachelors). Anyway all my
effort finally payed off when I got a small house, a single room with
attached kitchen. The surprising thing was the house owner had two
unmarried daughters. I was glad that they trusted me and tried my
best to retain their trust. Then it was a whole new begining with lots
of responsibilities.

When you are at home then all the things look so lovely and your created tantrums im that sort of guy as im the younger sibling. But as you can say it in that way my good luck or bad luck i have to leave my home for studies. As im new to city i have taken one room for my self but later on two more friend of sorts came to my rescue i use rescue as the rent of the kitchen and the room i cant bear as i have to do with the pocket money that parents gave to me....at first at i tried to take my breakfast and all the meals out and after fifteen days i got a shock that im our of money.......then we decided to that we will do all the thing ourselves we start cooking and all the washing and we learnt a lot that one should not be that choosy about the taste....as the food we cooked and chaptis are of nice made that you cant get in Taj......and then we came to know how easy to create tantrums while at home and how hard the things once u stepped out...one thing loneliness hurts when you are away from home........but for that i start playing cricket and some sports and for killing time i take the help of books......Now i m happier after three good years living away from home...i m changed a lot
